The eventual murals and paintings of this game in Athens lore eventually have to have Clean Old Fashioned EIGHT on there somewhere, right?

...and man do I hate Georgia. God this just reinforced that very much all over again.

What a format, good job everyone.

God forbid they just play something resembling a real overtime period.
A game of horse with the teams FG kicker would be more entertaining.
First team to make a FG after banking it off all 3 posts wins. I would watch that over this dreck.

So it used to be that teams just kept playing overtimes until there was a winner. Then LSU and Texas A&M played this monster:

https://www.espn.com/college-football/game/_/gameId/401012356/lsu-texas-am

The players wear heart monitors and after the game, both teams shared some alarming data with the NCAA showing that the game simply was not safe. So the coaches tasked the NCAA with coming up with a OT format that would result in as few plays as possible.

Of course, when your defense falls apart the last 2 regulation possessions and you're equally defenseless the first time Georgia touches the ball in OT...why don't you roll the dice and go for two after your touchdown?

And the refs have been jobbing you all game…. Agreed. I was screaming at Key to go for two there.

To be honest, we got to see a lot of GT’s best two point attempts. Based on what we saw, I’m confident if they had gone for it they would have lost.

Possibly, but given the talent depth difference between the two teams, I’d rather take my chances on one play than a possible extended series of plays.

Agreed. The offense was doing fine on first and 10. Goal to go from the three was a tough ask for the Jackets. And the condensed field really helped its secondary, which was helpless in the open field. I was surprised that Tech didn't try some more runs in overtime.

I really dislike the format. I think for triple overtime, I'd like it if they rolled out the old California (I think) HS format. Give one team the ball on the 50 and give them three plays to get as far as they can downfield. Then you turn the ball over to the other team, and they get three plays to get back past midfield for the win.

I like Colorado HS method the best. Ball at 10, 4 downs, go score.

Gus Johnson has Tate, the OSU WR, as a future NFL owner because he’s smart. He’s nothing if not hyperbolic; at least it’s something in the crazy world you can count on.

Really solid execution by tOSU there. Great play on 1st and especially 3rd down.

And a perfect kick by the kicker. I see no problems with those 4 plays.

Gus Johnson’s horrible today. He’s missing catches and the latest INT. Or staying silent for several seconds after plays because he obviously didn’t know what to call.
