Of course it was. I don’t believe in purposeful ref bias… except for college football. There’s way too much money at stake for shenanigans not to occur.
So ten or so years ago the officiating coordinator of the ACC (Doug Rhoads) was an active FBI agent as his “day job”. He got the FBI to commission a study into the potential for fixing college football games and they determined that it was not possible: football officials just have too few opportunities for intervention.

F it

Put Miami, SMU, Clemson, and GT all in the playoff
(Kidding on Gt)

They play up to their competition for sure though

Yeah I’m sure it’s a silly thought by me. I always say it’s not malice just incompetence when there’s egregiously bad calls. (no offense!).

I will say, I’ve seen more questionable stuff in CFB than in any other sport. Not merely bad calls, but bizarrely obviously bad calls in very critical moments where rankings, bowls, and money is on the line.

Let’s just say that I wouldn’t be surprised if we found there was a thumb on the scale.

I watch a lot of ACC football and their refs are atrocious.

This game is a good example of why it’s unlikely: Georgia was a three TD favorite. What exactly could the officials do in this game to cause UGA to win by 21+ points? Nothing.

I wasn’t talking about gambling. I’m talking about a loss knocking UGA out of the playoff. That’s worth a ton of money.

It doesn’t

They are clinched to play for the SEC Championship and a win there gets them not just in the playoff but most likely a bye

I think part of the argument is that they’re more likely to give the big name Georgia team some iffy calls because they’re vying for SEC representation in the playoff (conference $$$) as much as Vegas odds.

If they win tonight, but lose in the SECCG, they’re likely still in. Granted they lose both and another SEC team gets in, ha.

Win tonight and lose in the SEC champ game and they’ll still have a good shot at an at large bid. Lose both and there’s no chance.
