AAC Champ has to go to Shreveport Louisiana to play Sun Belt Champion Marshall for its bowl game. Navy drew blue blood Oklahoma for the Armed Forces Bowl. Army fans are not happy.

I think Army is better, but Navy is good. Not having to play last week was definitely an advantage, although one I'm sure Army has happy to suffer. Big questions for Navy are how healthy is QB Blake Horvath -- backup Braxton Woodson looked great two weeks ago against ECU, but a healthy Horvath is on another level.

These games always seem to come down to who makes the big mistakes and who can make their field goals. Army's kicker is 8-9 but with a long of just 39. Navy's is just 4-7 (one blocked) but with a long of 46.

Go Navy Beat Army.

I love all this pageantry. These are incredibly impressive young people.
I don't know how old you are, but if you're over 45, as someone who lives in Philly who over the past few years has run into cadets from both schools whenever the game is in town, the most striking thing is how young they are. They look like children dressed up for Halloween, which is not a knock, but a reminder of how young many of the people who defend our country are. God bless them all and keep them safe.

I'm 55. I work on a college campus and so I'm around athletes this age every day. But I don't work at one of the service academies, and they're a special bunch.

On an editorial note regarding Navy coaches, I was very saddened by how Coach Niumatalolo's tenure ended. He brought a great deal of respect and professionalism to the position. Yeah, it ended after an OT loss in the A-N game. But gee.

Today's selection criteria has become so competitive...perhaps even more so in ways beyond the Ivies. When my son didn't get picked up for an NROTC scholarship in 2014 - with truly impressive quals, it was clear to me that if I had applied then with the quality I had in 1973, I would have never gotten in. The current quality required for ROTC are the OLD standards for the Academies. The current standards for the Academies are elite. And they consider WAY more than grades or academics.

Yep. Two kids from my oldest son's high school class attended the academies - one at Annapolis and the other West Point. Excellent young men.

And I've spent time at TOPGUN. Talk about impressive people.....

What is the college rule for a QB throwing the ball while "over the line of scrimmage"?

(That is -- must one foot be over the line to disqualify? Two feet? The ball leaving the hand?)

Service academies are MUCH more selective than Ivies.
