CFB 2022 Week 14: Conference Championships

They trailed all game to a team missing its best offensive player and led by a middling QB. They’re not a top 4 team.
And neither is Ohio State or Alabama, who didn't even make it to a game this weekend. TCU is in.
I have no interest in watching Georgia blow this team out. I’d rather just give them a bye.
Bummer that Caleb Williams got injured and TCU is mediocre. The current top 4 was better for the sport than more Bama and tOSU.
I'd like to see the game. I enjoy watching this QB. You're entitled not to watch
So after these last couple of games....goodbye TCU and USC. So....

3. Ohio State
4. ?? Alabama? Tennessee?
I don't see any way a TCU team that just lost to Kansas State is getting in over 2-loss Alabama, even though they may deserve it. Almost nobody cares about TCU, but everyone cares about Alabama. That's going to factor in.
Honestly, I think the fourth team is going to be Alabama, and then I think the matchups will be Georgia-Alabama and Michigan-Ohio State. Even if nobody is thrilled with all that, that's the most likely outcome.

The Big 12 is a weak conference. Alabama’s two losses both on the road by 3 at the buzzer and by 1 in overtime. They are better than TCU.
Isn’t what’s best for the sport competitive championship games? Who would everyone put their money on first to actually emerge from the playoffs? Alabama or TCU?
Ole Miss and Texas. Both on the road. Who is TCU’s best win? Texas? Kansas State who they beat by 10 in the regular season only to lose now to them? Alabama vs Georgia will be a better game.
In a vacuum sure.
I think the dominance of the southeast over the last decade has limited the crossover appeal of college football. The Bama vs Clemson show was exhausting.
The sport is better off when more regions and conferences are represented. Particularly Texas and California.
Yes, beating Texas by more than a point and KState by 10 are better wins than Alabama had. They might not be a better team, but they had a better season. And they shouldn't be penalized by losing in OT in their Championship while Alabama was sitting home
Disagree that the Big 12 is weak. They might not have Georgia roaming around, but it's deep. Even the bad teams are capable. You don't get to cite Alabama's quality win as the Big 12's third place team and call the conference weak, imo.
The committee starts with what they want and establish the criteria thereafter. What they like changes depending on what they want to justify.
No doubt. I guess I listened to the committee chair on Tuesday talking about how they like to look at wins. But you're certainly correct.

In a better world, the format would be flexible. If you have three or four deserving teams, do a +1. If you don't, just play the game.
That would mean they'd have to leapfrog Michigan over Georgia, or Alabama over Ohio State. Obviously they can do that but it seems a bit fake.
Also, TCU beat Oklahoma State back when Spencer Sanders and the rest of their team was healthy. Maybe that doesn't look like a quality win now, but it is in my book.
The entire point of the committee is to engineer a playoff that ESPN wants. Otherwise they could have just used the AP or a BCS-type formula.
But expanding does move the talk of the 4th best and moves it down to a team that has almost zero chance of competing.
TCU and Alabama have a common opponent. TCU handled Texas much more easily than Alabama - who is lucky (and bad non safety call) as hell to have won.
Coastal is getting murdered in the Sun Belt championship. 31-0 Troy in the second quarter. Should have let JMU play.
