Think of a famous missed field goal.

...OK, now think of another one. Not so easy, for most reasonable definitions of "famous", right? To go beyond Norwood, you have to squint and recall, say, Blair Walsh for Minnesota (or Georgia!), or Billy Cundiff for Baltimore vs the Patriots.

Missed field goals happen, and there's not a lot of narrative value to them, you can't imbue them with some higher sense of moral strength or failure. Just luck of the draw, or (as here) a sense of "how the hell could your play-calling let it all come down to a 50-yarder?"

Every college football fan from the '90s should easily remember Florida State's missed field goals every time they played Miami. Particularly Wide Right I (1991) and Wide Right II (1992), which both have their own Wiki pages. There were at least two others.

Definitely the Wide Right series, plus the Iron Bowl one that Auburn ran back for the TD (if that counts). Gary Anderson in the NFL also jumps to mind.

I wonder how that game plays out if Michigan just kicks the field goal on the opening drive.
Or just run the ball there and not get cute, or if they don't fumble on the 1 inch line.

Not sure if Georgia looks beatable now or just shook of some rust, time will tell.

That loss will haunt the Michigan program for a long time, as it should.

Maybe TCU is actually really good? I certainly hope they give Georgia all they can handle and more.

As a Buckeyes fan, I'm pretty much already over this one. There's no shame in losing by 1 point on the road against the #1 team in the country. It was a game no one gave them a chance to win and Georgia needed a lot of late breaks, including knocking out the top receiver in the country, to get by. It does bring up more doubts about Ryan Day's ability to coach a powerhouse but was certainly a worse day for TTUN. I don't have much interest in the championship game, but do hope TCU takes down Stetson Weinke.

Their QB is a winner who competes his ass off and gets everything and then some from his non-elite athletic ability, and I think that rubs off on the entire team and causes them to play above their heads, too. Just my hypothesis.

I totally forgot that Purdue’s QB is Newton, Ma’s own (and Steve Burton’s son) Austin Burton.

Already has a Master’s.

right here
I'm late to the party but they will erect statues to whichever Georgia coach it was that sniffed out the fake punt and called down for them to take a TO.
