Deion Branch will be the interim coach for Louisville this Saturday's Fenway Bowl.

God I couldn’t imagine handling substitutions on that field with both teams going to the same sideline. Not to mention you’d have to basically ignore an entire section of the rule book to make it legal.

But even practically, let’s say the game is tied and the offense has the ball at the +35 on 3rd down with 20 seconds left and no timeouts. They are driving towards the side with their own bench. The offense runs a play to try and get closer and it ends up inbounds short of the line-to-gain. Clocks ticking. Offense subs the field goal unit onto the field, defense tries to so the same but they are coming from 40 yards farther away. Offense quick snaps and the defense is all over the place??? You can’t hold up the offense here due to the game time and situation, but the defense did nothing wrong.

The more I think about it the more I would tell the coaches that I am selecting the option for which goal to defend. Due to the unusual field conditions each team will drive towards the opponents bench in the 2nd and 4th.

There’ve been a bunch of football games played there. I can’t recall any issues, but there may have been some special rule tweaks in play.
That's a credit to the officials who've worked the games. I've only heard nightmare stories from the officials.

Holy Cross played Bucknell at Polar Park this fall. Same bench situation.

When a team was in the red zone and the defense occupied the opposite bench, the defensive players who weren't involved the previous play ran across the field to around the 20 yard line and ran in their subs from there.

Needless to say, this wasn't something that the Patriots and their opponents did or had any need to do back in the day. (benches were same at Fenway as they are now, only difference was there were about 20 rows of temporary bleachers straddling the wall from end to end.

I'll be switching to Texas high school football an hour in, but I'm pretty pumped for the Fenway Bowl. Morning football, Fenway Park, funky field set up, the Satterfield weirdness, Deion Branch coaching. It's beautiful.

Was watching that live and flabbergasted they didn’t rule it a fumble. Even worse iirc they said they verified he was down.
The only thing that can possibly have happened is that the replay the officials saw showed the ND State guy w/the ball on the ground and then the UIW guy stole it from him. Any ruling that says the fumble occurred after the runner's knee touched is utterly ridiculous, you might as well not have replays if that's what they judged from what they showed the viewing public.

I am an idiot. I know that Joe Green played at UNT because everyone from north Texas knows that. But until this moment I never connected the moniker “Mean Joe Green“ with him playing for the Mean Green at UNT.

I’m revoking your Texas card. I went to UNT for two summer sessions and had a blast. I might’ve had some extracurricular activities on that field named after him a time or two, too.
