How does Frisco, Texas get two bowls in a week? Is it some sort of hidden holiday destination?
You made me look. It’s the FC Dallas soccer stadium. It holds about 20k and has a whole soccer complex around. I’m guessing all those fields and those dimensions make it a decent option for these tier two bowls. Looks like the FCS championship game is there too.

I wonder how much they save using the same events with the two bowls a few days apart.

The Frisco Football Classic was the one they added last minute to let all the bowl-eligible teams participate. Clearly, Toyota Stadium was ready, willing, and able to pull that off. From ESPN Events' perspective, it was probably a cheap and easy venue to work with. And they get a local team to help move some tickets.

Frisco is also becoming the center of the US sports universe, office-wise. The Cowboys started it but the PGA is building a massive new headquarters and moving there. Rumors are the NCAA is looking for land just north near Prosper.

UTSA vs SDSU is one of the more interesting games this bowl season IMO. Exciting to watch it.
We would definitely be tuning in if we didn’t have an NFL game tonight. We’ll probably still check it out.

Army just lost to Navy, and now is favored against an SEC team. This does not compute. Like Mizzou with the points.

Their thinking must be that any team that loses to BC should be an underdog

I also like Missouri. I'd throw out the service academy games -- the level of familiarity the teams have with one another makes it totally different than a bowl game. But otherwise, Army played two teams roughly on Missouri's level in Wisconsin and Wake Forest and lost both (albeit both in competitive games).

One thing I will say is that most of Mizzou DC Steve Wilks' experience is from the NFL. You show up with an undercooked game plan against the option and you're in for a long day on defense unless you can totally overwhelm with athleticism. Navy's ass kicking of Missouri in the 2009 Texas Bowl jumps to mind.

Flipped on Kent State vs Wyoming. Aside from the blue turf, both teams are wearing yellow pants making this the most unwatchable football game in the history of televised football.

At least we got 90 points out of these two teams. The blue field really messes with my brain though.

are they really dumping French fries on the winning coach?

Careful fellas. Missouri stinks. Their wins are a directional Michigan, FCS Southwesteast Missouri, North Texas (.500 in C-USA), Vanderbilt (really really bad) by 9 and South Carolina (awful) by a field goal. Oh, and Florida by a point.

one rule in bowl season...dont bet against the service acadamies. Almost always, these games mean much more to them, then they do to their opponent.

Army's best win is Western Kentucky. Three of their wins are against FCS Bucknell and sub-FCS UMass and UConn. The Air Force and Liberty wins are solid, but Army schedules its way to bowl eligibility and Missouri has to play in the SEC.

No doubt that they'll come ready to play.

Combined Bowl record with the current coaching staffs: 14-11 (Army 3-1, Navy 6-5, Air Force 5-5).
Against P5 schools: 6-5 (Army 0-1, Navy 4-2, Air Force 2-2)

Yeah, Mizzou is an SEC sleeper some years, but this isn't one of them.

Mizzou is 125th against the run--over 225 yards allowed per game, slightly better than UMass. Army's going to run it 50 times and the Mizzou defense is going to be sucking wind by the middle of each quarter. All of that pointed to an Army win even before Tyler Badie opted out.

The service academies are usually getting points in bowl games, usually a bunch. They play styles that the other teams arent used to, execute at a high level, and play hard wire to wire. The opponents usually lack motivation becuase the service academies are not a name opponent, and they dont respect their on the field abilities.

However laying points against an SEC team, has to be a first, but I am sticking by my theory, go Cadets.

Is it possible for someone to get a waiver to play two bowls? That seems like the easiest solution. Or just wait for someone else to have a COVID outbreak.

The Gator Bowl is on NYE. How bad must their situation be that they don't think they would get enough players back 9 days from now?

Turn the Gasparilla Bowl into a play-in game. They're both (UF and UCF) local and probably can draw as well as anyone else on short notice.

Can SMU back out of Fenway and go there? That seems like best solution.

Have UVA not play, their coach is leaving, they never send many fans, and it's gonna be freezing.

Also not a good matchup for Fenway to make a best first impression.

Or change the rules one time and send Vandy LOL. All gold matchup w/ Wake. Keep the conference tie-in.

The problem with pulling a team from another bowl is it screws the fans who already bought tickets and made travel plans.

This would be really weird. With the way this variant is spreading, the odds have to be somewhat decent it happens to one of the three games...

A new College Football Playoff policy written this week in response to the surging omicron variant allows for a team to advance to the national championship -- and ultimately win it -- by its opponents having to forfeit, according to an updated set of COVID-19 policies the CFP released on Wednesday.

Is this the thread to post about Texas A&M bowing out of the Gator Bowl due to a covid outbreak? Because it is happening.

Because of a COVID outbreak, Texas A&M is unable to play in the Gator Bowl, sources tell
@SINow
. Aggies don’t have enough available players. Gator is searching for a replacement bowl team, sources say, but the only way that's possible is if another bowl is impacted.
Oh wow. Go Deacs!?

Put Texas in the Gator Bowl. They're horrible but I'd laugh and laugh and laugh at aggy tears.

Edit: To be fair, A&M has had a metric ton of guys opting out of the bowl before Covid took over. They were missing 7 starters due to opt outs sooooooooooo /tinfoilhattime

It is funny the team who lauds the 12th man nonsense has to forfeit for lack of players.

Alabama has gone back into a COVID bubble and Michigan lined up booster shots today for whoever didn’t have them.

No word on any precautions being taken by Georgia or Cincinnati, but I have to believe they are taking some.

Of course, once Omicron gets into a team these precautions might not matter.

My tin foil hat is in full splendor. The Aggies couldn't get up for the Gator Bowl.

I'm hoping the Deacs get their full guarantee plus a chunk of A&M's. Jerks...

Read that Marshall is eager to step in as a second bowl.
