A Scud Away from Hell
CES has been dominated by TV & display tech lately and this year seems to be without exception. The most exciting future TV tech last year was "The Wall" and Samsung came back with an improved version:

I wonder when it becomes affordable, you can buy a couple at a time to increase your TV size incrementally. Samsung is really out to crush LG in the OLED vs MicroLED game.

As a display company guy I love CES almost as much as Infocomm. I've been lucky enough to work in booths at Infocomm on 3 continents the strides the last decade have been quite a whirlwind. I cannot wait for you to spotlight my company in a couple years @SeoulSoxFan.

Oh please, you're missing the real show headline. Last year this item won the Innovation award, then that was revoked and they were banned, this year they are back and their award has been reinstated.

What makes it so groundbreaking is instead of old fashioned vibrators, it uses a combo of "come hither" and sucking actions ... Yes it's a woman's sex toy.... see the complete story here

Wasn't it a big deal when last year's CES tried to ban/run sex toys out of the show (at least the main grounds)?

What's funny (well, to a dude at least) that it looks like the female version of this "handy" coffee bean roaster I posted on the espresso thread:

I'm totally out of touch with the Arcade1 craze since leaving US. I would have snapped them up if I had the room. Are the controls okay or cheap (as some have complained)?
The earlier ones have terrible controllers. MK2 ended up getting a controller upgrade but I personally have heard awesome reviews on TMNT and Star Wars. Seems like its a good bet to stay away from street fighter and the earlier ones unless you upgrade the sticks and buttons yourself.

Now with NBA Jam coming they need to come out with Wrestlefest. One of the most fun arcade machines ever.

Star Wars was one of the 2 games that made me think we're heading into a new world (SW and Dragon's Lair). Has anyone have fond memories of the arcade at the Methuen Mall, a couple of shops down from the Orange Julius? I dropped a small fortune there.

I was going to grab a LG 55" C9 but the gamer features they are adding to the CX (and maybe BX) look really good, borderline essential for next-gen consoles. Thinking I'll just ride out most of 2020 on my Panasonic Plasma and hope the CX has a decent price later in the year.

I'm thinking about it myself. They need to come out with an area 51 cabinet. Stunning they haven't had a shooting one yet. I'm buying the street fighter one with the attempt to mod it. Should be fun

I'm in literally the same situation. But my 50" Panasonic plasma is really struggling now. It will randomly switch into a low color mode, where everything looks like a 256 color GIF. Unplugging it for a little while helps, but it comes back every couple of days.

What are the new features for next year's models? As far as I've seen from the reviews, the only differences between the B9 and C9 are peak brightness and out of box calibration, so I was leaning towards a B9 if the plasma just stopped working.

People aren't completely clear on what the C9 does on this front because I think it's new and there aren't a lot of sources to test with, but at best it will do 120hz only on the HDMI 2.1 input, won't do 120hz on the other inputs (but people on AVS Forum suggest maybe it doesn't do 120hz at all). The CX (and probably BX) will do it on all inputs. This isn't an issue for PS4/XBox One because they max at 60fps but both next gen systems will have games that go over 60 fps. They are also advertising G-Sync but the C9 does that now I think or will through a firmware update, which means as a monitor for a PC from an NVidia card it's better, the CX adds FreeSync which is the same for ATI cards. Other than for gaming there are some interesting things like a film mode that removes motion smoothing that was developed with film directors, AppleTV as a smart app (which again I think will be added to the C9 via a future firmware update) and then it's fluffy stuff like AI on the chip that makes faces, sports etc... look better which who knows. If I weren't going to game on it I'd probably jump at a C9, but my laptop's 144hz and it's great.
