Mavs sell out every game already. And I love Al, but he's the exact opposite of the type of player you'd bring in if you're trying to sell tickets. They'd be way more likely to generate excitement by adding a big name rookie to pair up with Smith that they can sell as the core of the next competitive Mavs team. Plus that might actually work to win them enough games to matter eventually, which adding Al wouldn't.
Al Horford wouldn’t help them win games? You don’t think he’s a really, really good fit for Carlisle’s system? That’s funny — cuz I do.

Teams don’t go thru a perfect circle of up and down. Don’t dismiss that the Mavs might actually want to win games next year in lieu of getting 7 Dennis Smiths over the next 7 lotteries.

Hey this has been a fun day fellas!!

Fun thread. Felt like the early days of Celticsblog... back when candid debate — or literally any debate at all — was actually encouraged there.

Appreciate all the vim and vigor I received. I’ll be back for more punishment another day soon!

Sorry I deleted the hyperbolic 1991 thing — that was annoying.

I’m not screaming anything. You’re taking it as that because you don’t like your feathers ruffled by someone new around here

Prior to agreeing to be traded to the Cs, Garnett had one one year left on his deal before he could opt out, and then signing an extension with Boston. If by “Pending FA” you mean he was still under contract — correct, he was not a FA. Which Davis will be in 2020. Thus the difference I’m drawing between your suggestion and the reality of the Garnett trade. It’s not rocket science.
You’re not ruffling anyone’s feathers. You’re getting angry because we’re not singing the praises of your NBA 2Kx trade scenario. You should try reading the threads around here before you blow a gasket. We really do discuss the parameters of a deal regularly, as well as the pluses and minuses of Davis.

But we don’t get too hung up on imaginary trades. Your trade scenario won’t happen. Ever. Just as all the potential Garnett deals that we discussed in 2006 never happened, even though Boston ended up with Garnett.

And, yes, guys going into the last year of their deals are pending free agents. Garnett was a one year rental in June of 2007, which is why Boston refused to trade Jefferson and #5 for him. (And that is probably the poll you’re thinking of, there were people that thought that was too high a price for Garnett, once the price went down to Big Al and filler there was near 100% unanimity that it was a great deal.)

They're going to win about 30 games and miss the playoffs by about 15 games this year. Their 2 best players this year are already bigs, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he won't win them enough games to matter, but I'm sure they'd be happy to give up a lottery pick to finish 5-10 games out of the playoffs instead of 15.

Fella I’m not angry at all. I just know the difference between when someone IS a free agent, and when someone’s NOT a free agent. To borrow your condescending tone: “hint: Garnett was not one in 2007. Davis will be in 2020.”

So you think there’s no chance — ever — that the Cs will trade Brown and picks to the Pels, with Horford going to a third team? But you DO think the Cs need to wait until Davis is a FA to trade for him because Jaylen Brown’s on a (nice, valuable) rookie contract and that represents an insurmountable mathematical problem? Got it.

Why are we taking about this again? I don’t care whether you sing the praises of my ideas — i’d rather hoped it might spark discussion of its concept and how it could be improved, actually.

In fact I don’t recall if you even commented on that idea in the first place. I just told you I thought yours was lame afterwards was all, I think.

You’re doing an excellent imitation of a hamfisted keyboard warrior.

No, I think the Pelicans aren’t going to trade Davis this year. The earliest that it will happen is in the summer of ‘19. And, no, Boston isn’t going to send Horford to a rebuilding team.

The Pelicans aren't the type of team that's trying to win titles, they just want Davis to not be so upset that he leaves in 2020, but right now their mandate is to just make the playoffs, which they are in position to do.

Isn't part of Cuban's problem is he keeps swinging and missing for max free agents and has to settle for Harrison Barnes? I don't think there's any evidence Cuban is changing that approach and going after a Horford type, even if it hasn't been successful.
