Notice in his second bucket below that he hits the step-back from the corner going to his left, using only his left hand to set it up with the hesitation dribble that gets his defender back on his heels. Most guys, especially his age, start that with their dominant hand and cross over because they aren't comfortable creating space with their off hand. It's a small thing, but it's example #347 of how advanced his shot creating is. If you believe in his capacity to extend his shot to NBA range- and based off of his form and elite FT%, I really do- he's going to be a really tough guy to defend. I'm interested to see how develops moving without the ball, coming around screens, and passing out of the high post through the year because those are two areas where he can add a lot of value.

By way of comparison (and without taking sides since I think "few" or "three" is probably a 50-50 bet), Jamal Murray only had two games of 25 or over, although he did have two 22 point games and one each of 23 and 24 point games.

It's pretty hard to project rookie scoring, especially on a team with proven 20+ guys like IT and Haywild. Throw in Horford and you have a very tough road to 20 a night. The good news is that you can see the potential and the smarts. He won't force things too much but he's smart enough to get his when the opportunity is there and there will be good spacing if he runs with the starters.
The Jabari comp is a very apt one. Hopefully he'll have better injury luck than JP.

KO played on a team without Al Horford or Gordon Heyward. How many 25+ games did Jaylen have last year? Zero. His high game was 20 points against Orlando on 1/27. I think you guys are (wet) dreaming, but I'd be thrilled to be wrong.

Edit: organization/spelling
I am not sure if Tatum will be a 25 PPG guy or anything like that but he is much much further along offensively than Jaylen was last year. I don't think the two are comparable really

From what I can tell, his offensive game is more polished than Jaylen's right now, and that's not to detract from the strides Jaylen had made.

Dana Barros did a 50. Then I Googled...
  • Charles Smith, 52 points. Clippers vs. Warriors, Dec. 1, 1990. Career scoring average: 14.4 ppg
  • Dana Barros, 50 points. Sixers vs. Rockets, Mar. 14, 1995. ...
  • Willie Burton, 53 points. Sixers vs. Heat, Dec. 13, 1994. ...
  • Tony Delk, 53 points. Suns vs. Kings, Jan. 2, 2001. ...
  • Tracy Murray, 50 points. Wizards vs. Warriors, Feb. 10, 1998.
EDIT: my personal favorite Rando is Askia Jones but that was college.

He lacks athleticism in the way that people said Jabari Parker lacked athleticism. If you don't jump out of the gym that is a knock against elite prospects but Tatum looks as athletic as he needs to be at the NBA level.
There were similar concerns about Gordon Hayward's athleticism coming out of college. While Tatum didn't test pre-draft, I would bet he would test out similarly to Hayward in terms of athleticism. Danny's wager is that Tatum is athletic enough to hang in the NBA and he looks good so far. I'll be curious to see how he looks in actual NBA games, especially with guys that are much stronger than him. I remember Jaylen saying that playing against Joe Johnson was sobering for him in that regard.

He's fun to watch, though, there's definitely some Pierce in that footwork.

I cannot wait to see IT, Brown, Hayward, Tatum, and Horford on the floor at the same time. I'm sure that won't be standard rotation but when it does happen holy smokes it's going to be fun. Great balance of veterans and new blood.

I think the 1 big, 1 pg and 3 wing lineup is something we'll see a lot of. Looking forward to seeing that group as well.

Tatum might not have elite run & jump athleticism, but he's really sudden with his movements- quick with his ball-fakes + good first step and agile feet means he's gonna be able to create space to shoot, get to the rim and draw fouls.

Zizic looks really raw. If the C's are going to rely on him for any meaningful minutes this year it could get ugly. He is struggling against guys who, by and large, have no shot at sniffing an actual NBA game.

I've been popping in and out, so I'm sure I just missed it, but-- just a rest day for Jaylen? Or has he been in when I've been away?

RE Zizic; I am having a hard time reconciling the guy I watched several times in the Euroleague this winter/spring with the guy in the summer league. He looks slow and stiff compared... I wonder if he has dead legs after the playoffs. He was the best guy on the floor for stretches when his team was playing Real Madrid.

Yeah Zizic looks really gassed. He doesn't look like the high motor guy everyone was raving about. Hopefully it's jet lag/altitude/whatever.

He very clearly stepped on his foot and tripped him but the dumbass Jazz announcers ignores it.
I am lagged - I was talking about the strip before that where Tatum fouled him on the follow. I agree that Mitchell tripped him there.

Tatum needs to improve his handle. He's got length and can shoot on the move but if he can't get by people his fadeaways will be predictable.

Exum shouldn't be excited to be playing in the Summer Leauge, he should be wearing a dunce cap.
