I'm with you. I follow the Nets' games as fervently as the Celtics. And their wins probably bother me more than a Celtics loss.
Following the Nets has become one of my favorites basketball past times as well. Since the 1950's the only Top-5 draft picks who have played for the team were Chauncey Billups, Kevin McHale, and Dave Cowens.......we now have the opportunity to have 3 consecutive seasons of elite teenagers joining our organization.

We don't "need" to trade for a star.

The only surprise was the play of Demetrius Jackson, who made Danny's decision on who to cut all the more difficult. James Young wasn't terrible either. RJ Hunter, on the other hand, reverted to form on offense with 25% shooting, but he must have done something on defense because his +/- was +11. Jordan Mickey didn't do much. He could be the odd man out, as intriguing as he is. Ben Bentil is another candidate for the chopping block.
Could Gerald Green be on the chopping block? With Smart and Brown figuring to be the first (s)wings off the bench, I'd rather hold onto Young and Hunter to give them further time to develop at the end of the bench or in Maine.

Those guys do not look like quality NBA players to me and would be easily replaceable. I'd rather have the vet.

I've been down on Hunter forever. He had a blow-out game last week against the Knicks, scoring 17 points on 6 for 8 shooting, but golly he's looked overmatched in every game before and since.

Ainge lured Green back when he had other offers. Cutting a veteran, even a min contract guy, who you convinced to sign here isn't something that a GM in this league would do. Certainly not someone like Ainge who values his relationships with agents.

aren't there future 2nds to be had for Hunter, Young and Green?
Doubtful.

Teams are trimming rosters, and are reluctant to part with draft picks for guys that are unlikely to amount to anything. And GMs know the C's do have to cut someone.

Green probably stays for at least a while for the reasons HRB noted.

Cultural hub of the universe
Green certainly didn't do anything to impress tonight. My take on the end of the roster competition:

Mickey up
Green down
Hunter meh
Young up.

I don't know anything about GM/agent relationships, but I'd cut Green with little remorse.

A lot will change once we get a feel for how these kid's skills play out at a high level, but a few that project are:

  1. Harry Giles - Duke - Had another knee injury so that could be a concern. 6'10 monster that can really handle and finish. Tough kid to match up with.
  2. Markelle Fultz - Washington - 6'5 combo guard, very skilled.
  3. Jayson Tatum - Duke - Very skilled 6'9 perimeter scorer
  4. Josh Jackson - Kansas - Another 6'8 perimeter scorer. Very athletic. His shot is a concern though
  5. Dennis Smith - NC State - 6'2 PG. He might be best out of everybody. Freak athlete, tight handle, sees floor well and can score from anywhere. Question for Cs is do they want to draft PG when they have IT. Personally, not that it matters, but I would
  6. Bam Adebayo - Kentucky - I am really intrigued by his potential. 6'10 freak athlete. Long. Seems to be pretty skilled for his age and size. He could work his way up to #1 based on his size and potential
There's a few more, but you can Google and check out some videos and reports. And thank you Billy King
A few names to add to the list...
Frank Ntilikana- A PG in France. Supposedly very athletic, big and long, high basketball IQ and can defend. Problem is he can't shoot.
Ivan Rabb-PF, Cal
De'Aaron Fox-PG/SG, Kentucky
Jonathan Isaac-SG/SF, FSU

That sounds like Ainge's guy, right there.

I thought Hunter was better than Young last night. He generally seems to understand the game whereas Young just runs around and sometimes makes a shot.

I wish Mickey was 3 inches taller, but he's not, so I can't see ever being anything other than a 10th man.

So tempting to send Green on his merry way. I wonder if the other vets will influence the final roster decision?

Hunter's dad is a coach, that usually leads to the son having a better understanding of the game.

I was really hoping my "Young & Smart" T-shirt would be valuable one day, but my guess is that James's days with the C's are down to his last few
