One question I've always had - and it came up again after the Miami game this year - should the FG have been the last play of the game or should there have been at least one second left thus requiring the Patriots to kick off? While I'm very happy to have seen 0:00 come up - when the signal for the kick being good went up there were pretty clearly at least 2 seconds remaining on the game clock. The way it has been explained to me is that the end judges signalling good is only an indication to the referee, who then checks to make sure there are no other flags and only after he acknowledges/approves the indicative call is the play considered officially "complete" - so that accounts for the extra couple of seconds ticking off. Is this correct?
I used to think the same, but IIRC the rule at the time was that any kind of FG attempt was ruled to take 7 seconds. I have no idea where I saw that but I'm pretty sure I'm not fever dreaming that up.
Thanks for this - I wondered the same thing.

And (and maybe this belongs in the media thread), but the last drive references above led me to re-watch the final drive against Carolina. Kasay kicks off, and the color guy (Simms?) says something like, "yeah, kickoff, but let's rewind to the touchdown. See Ty Law getting burned? The Patriots blew the coverage!"

Except...the kickoff might have been one of the two most consequential plays of the half (Wilson losing his man for the long TD counts, too), and while the coverage was definitely blown, it was old friend Asante Samuel, not Ty, out there on an island. Further proof that with rare exceptions, you're better off watching the game than listening to the guys in the booth

I believe that this series of events with the ball randomly bouncing around led to the drill that the Patriots work on every week. The person with the ball runs over and hands it to the official every time. Failure to do so means laps for the entire offense.
This was mentioned in a couple of different articles where players were talking about how the Patriots practices are completely different than any other team.
That would probably explain why Wiggin was pointing a finger at the Ram DL saying he interfered with the ball in that shot above.

Brady tweeted today that it was the anniversary of his draft and also that it is Belichick's birthday.

I don't know that I've ever really known that it was Belichick's birthday when he drafted Brady. Pretty cool.

I'm not sure what thread is best for this, but I'm going to stick this here. Everything about this is wonderful.

(for the Twitter challenged, the 6th Lombardi has a sizable dent in it, kudos of Gronk's excellent bunting form).

That was awesome, but I was kinda hoping the dent would have come from another signature Gronk move.

I had the same reaction when I heard that today.

One week away from Roger Goodell, to a chorus of boos, declaring "With the 32nd pick in the 1st of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots select..."

He won't be saying Super Bowl Champion.

They'll also probably trade out and I don't think Rog announces picks after round 1.

In that case I will be editorializing for anyone in earshot. The world needs to know we are Super Bowl Champions.

Ah I see. That's some pretty roundabout logic though. It's not like Morris wouldn't have been getting snaps too.

Edit: the play was a 1st and 10 play action pass, so it's not like it was a 3rd down protection

Edit 2: Morris in no way "fucked up the block". Watch it again. He totally took the rusher down. Then when the rusher was down, he dove at Brady from the ground. What was Morris supposed to do, lie on top of him and get called for holding?

Seymour, yep. I think the 9-7 season yielded Vince.
9-7 yielded Ty Warren in 2003. Vince was a year later using the pick the Patriots had acquired from trading out of a late 2003 pick that the Ravens used on Kyle Boller.

edit: oops you're right, the 9-7 season yielded the pick the Patriots traded for Vince. The Warren pick was basically acquired for Bledsoe.

Reading through the Patriots' draft day trades from that era is fascinating... BB got so much value out of nearly every pick. Example: the Patriots traded Tebucky Jones to the Saints in 2003 for three draft picks that ultimately resulted in Corey Dillon, Tully Banta-Cain and Dexter Reid.

I went back and checked myself after posting that and got confused by the gymnastics. He really does play hard with the picks. And while he's not perfect by any means, he sure doesn't do crazy shit out of love for a particular guy.

The fact that they haven't had a losing season since Bill Clinton was president is remarkable in so many ways. They never pick high, like ever.

Last top 20 pick they “earned” by record before Seymour was Terry Glenn in 1996. Unreal.

Brady or Bill? Pretty sure the latter did either 2003 or 2004. I don’t remember Brady doing one.

Gronk maybe ...

Are we getting another Do Your Job?

Brady did 2001.

2001 was Brady, Milloy and Vinatieri
2003 Weiss, Rodney and Willie
2004 Troy Brown, Bruschi and Belichick
2014 Edelman, Gronk and McCourty
2016 Edelman, Blount and Hightower

I love Jules, but I was hoping for him to sit this one out.

My picks earlier in the thread were Slater, Van Noy, Belichick, and Chung, so I'm hoping the last guy is on that short list. Slater would be awesome.

Same here. I thought the last one was by far the worst one with the stupid squirrel book. Nice to bitch about which Super Bowl video is your least favorite!

3 Games to Glory comes out today as well.

It's the only one I've only watched once. These are truly first world football problems. I concur that I was hoping Jules would sit this one out, though. The other 4 America's Games are sublime.

I'm not getting the "wish he sat this one out" thing...are you guys annoyed at/tired of listening to him or think it somehow effects his performance?
It’s not like I’m losing any sleep if he’s in it again, but IMO the America’s Game series is fucking awesome in general, and the first four Patriot ones are amazing. The last one, not so much. Maybe it was for some other reason, but Edelman being in there again, and the tie in to the squirrel book as noted above, just kind of detracted from it. We’ve heard from Edelman on these, twice, and his “bro” thing was kind of endearing the first time, and then (again IMO) a little overdone the second time. I would just rather hear from someone else than him this time around.

Stipulating, of course, that this is a ridiculous thing to have a conversation about.

Agreed with everything Ralphwiggum said. I'm not sure what the "affecting his performance" argument would be, aside from maybe a positive effect in motivating him to excel and win more championships so that he can narrate more of these videos, because you can tell he loves doing it.

I got mine in the mail today - here in Austria. That was a pretty amazing surprise.
The only bummer is that the digital download is apparently only available in the US.

sorry, misunderstanding. I initially ordered the digital download but it was canceled by patriots.com as the digital download is only available in the US, so I had to order the Blu-ray. I don't think there is a download code included in the Blu-ray.

There was not. You were able to purchase them independently, but one was not included with the other.

MY Blu-ray arrived last week, but NH is a little closer than Austria.

I love him on the field but his off the field act gets old. We all get he's a bro and he's Tom's buddy. He's like a reoccurring character in a show who always shows up and does the same schtick.

I'd just rather listen to someone else, as Ralph said.

I cancelled my Blu-ray when I saw iTunes had it early and it included a ton of extras. Does anyone know if the Blu Ray has extra stuff the iTunes version doesn't? I will say being able to sit anywhere and watch a few minutes on my iPhone is priceless.

And let me echo the shoutout for @brandonchristensen and his Vimeo account, thanks so much for doing so much hard work for us to enjoy.

Bumping this because the Pats are awesome, but mostly because it pains me to see a thread bemoaning Brady losses atop this thread.

I think of Boston fans as more "incredibly fortunate" than "obnoxiously entitled," but sometimes that's a thin line.
