Making a few new prospect threads since a lot of the old guys were traded. If anyone wants to take over any of these, feel more than free.

DOB: 10/27/93 Berkeley, CA
6'2 180lbs Throws Right, Bat Rights
College: Washington

Austin Rei was the Redsox 3rd round pick in 2015 out of Washington. He struggled initially, slashing .179/.285/.295 in 130 PA at Lowell. Considering he was a 21 year old with 3 years of college play under his belt, this was especially atrocious.

He would not fair much better in 2016 at Greenville, slashing .212/.331/.281 in 369 PA. However, looking deeper into the numbers, his K rate went from 30% in 2015 to 22.2 in 2016. His BB rate went from 8.5% to 11.1.

Fast forward to this year and Austin is currently slashing .359/.432/.641 with 4bb/4k in 44 PA. He has 9xbh in 44 PA compared to 20 in 369 in 2016 and 8/130 in 2015. He has thrown out 4/11 would be base stealers for 36%. His 2015 and 2016 numbers are not recorded on bref for some reason.

He did have a thumb injury he sustained in college in 2015 and was taping that thumb up in 2016. It could potentially explain some of his struggles. At 23, he's probably a year or two older than you would like for Salem. He has potential to be an average catcher defensively but has a lot of work to get there.

He has cooled down since his hot start and is currently in a 2/31 slump. His season line to date stands at .241/.362/.405. During that slump, he has 3 walks and 14 strikeouts. He's also struck out in 11 of his last 18 at bats (21 PA).

Baseball hasn't been kind to Austin Rei since the last update. In 52 PA, he hit .204/.250/.367 with a BAbip of .257.

For the year, he is now at .227/.322/.391 in 146 PA with zero improvement in his K or BB rates.

Last 34 games, 127 PA he is at .188/.283/.286. It's been safe to write him off as a prospect for awhile, but he's all but done.

On a positive note, over the last 6 games he's at .300/.364/.400 but with a BAbip of .400. He's been lost for awhile.

Austin Rei continues to struggle. Since June 18th he has put up a slash line of .242/.329/.348 on a .348 BAbip. He has 7bb/21k in 76 PA. For the year, he is now at .239/.329/.376 in 258 PA. Sadly, all 3 are close to career highs with his OBP being 2 points below.
