Got all 3 in without having to move out salary.

Should have ~$2 million in cap space to start the year

Wow that is a bargain. I do wonder what the longterm cost would have been, but I assume it would have taken 5 mil plus to get him signed longterm. I do think Carlo can raise his offensive game, but I do expect it will peak around the 20-25 pts a year level

I assume part of the thinking around the bridge deals is that Sweeney sees a limited window with this core, and keeping McAvoy and Carlo around for that period makes sense in that context. To be clear, I know there are other reasons to structure the deals this way. Just saying that the window must be part of it.

In two years:
  • Carlo, Kuraly (UFA), and Heinen are up - $6.925m
  • Krejci + Backes are also up - $13.250m (assuming Backes is moved / retires before then anyhow)
Timing works nicely there to retain or move those three as Carlo / Heinen should have trade value.

For DeBrusk and Grzelcyk coming up next summer, my assumption is Coyle, Wagner, Nordström, Miller, and Halak walk (opening up ~$11m) and they make a play at re-signing Krug - but still way too early on both of these scenarios. Nice work by Sweeney to ensure they aren't tied down

right here
The kids really do seem to like being here and around each other and it seems like they did a bit of a solid to make it work.

If the first part is true (the kids enjoying playing here), we can probably look at the Cassidy extension as part of it as well. Money that's not against the cap, but helps in retaining players.

deep inside Guido territory
Capfriendly has the Bruins with $25 million in space for next year with DeBrusk, Grz, and Connor Clifton as RFAs. Should have in-house replacements for Wagner/Nordstrom/Coyle/Halak. That leaves a lot of money to address Krug or his replacement and Chara's likely replacement.

This is fantastic news and I don't think Sweeney could have handled these deals any better. A+.
