where the darn libs live
Dorktown is back with another exhaustive documentary, this time about Blue Jays legend, Dave Stieb. As always, Jon Bois and Alex Rubenstein are just perfect. If you're unfamiliar with Bois and his style of work, you're in for a treat.

Four parts, about four hours in total.

He maybe the best stuff I've ever seen in that near perfect game against the Yankees. The Pedro game against the Yankees, Clemens against Milwaukee in game 162 of the 1987 season to clinch the CYA, and that Stieb game were probably the three most impressive games stuff-wise I've ever seen..

I honestly can’t tell if everyone is messing or not, but I couldn’t get more than 5 min in with all the weird 80’s 3D spacey graphics and music. I’m out.

Man, I don't know what to tell you if you gave up after 5 minutes. I get that it seems cheesy at first, but the stats, information and drama they build through that is incredible. I have watched the first three of this one, and would rate the History of the Mariners a little higher from an entertainment standpoint, but this one is spectacular so far.

I gave the first one five minutes and zoned out. Shitty music, graphics, and mawkward voice narration.

I figured maybe they needed some time, so I gave the second video five minutes. They're doing a shitty box score narraton. It's boring.

Different strokes, and all that. I guess I hadn’t considered that the Powerpoint-with-lounge-music style could be a turn off for some folks, but I love it. In my opinion, it’s about as interesting as you can get with a sports documentary on Youtube, given the platform’s restrictions.

I love Alex and Jon’s sense of humor and I especially dig how the weird, 3D landscape of charts can be visually humorous or adept at illustrating the nature of certain stats.

Plenty of shorter-form Chart Parties and Pretty Goods to choose from if you’re looking for more digestible stuff from Jon.

Breaking Madden is also one of the funniest things I think I’ve ever seen.

Haven’t started this yet but I hear that Jack Morris comes off super poorly in it? Which is the most believable thing I‘ve heard in a while.

I’m halfway thru this. Very cool.

It’s amazing how little we knew about anything before the internet. I remember Stieb and those 80’s Blue Jays teams but there was just so little information about anything available compared to now. How had I never heard about the back to back games losing no-hitters with 2 outs in the ninth?
