Immediately scoring and immediately getting a taunting penalty was such a perfect return. I could not be happier how the Mac/Cam competition turned out, but I am so glad his NFL leave of absence wasn’t permanent - Cam is pure fun in football form.

Completely agree -- his response to a question on how it felt to get that first TD.

"This time last week I was eating a bowl of cereal."

Pure fun when he's someone else's QB. I like Cam, but watching him last season was occasionally super fun, but usually super sad.

I agree. I wish nothing but success for Cam, who seems like a really good guy. I'm also glad he's not our QB anymore. Maybe Carolina's offensive scheme better suits him. Win win.

Panthers lost, but Cam played pretty well, and seems to have shored up some of his worst issues from last year with getting the ball out quick under pressure (CAR's line was real bad)

21/27 189 yards 2 TDs, 0 INT only 1 sack taken (for 3 yards)
Ran 10 times for 46 more yards and a TD

I was trying to figure out how they lost w that line.

4 of his 6 incompletions were drive killers on 3rd down. Basically inability to convert 3rd down was the story of the offenses day

I think the Panthers optimal strategy might be to play with Cam when tied or leading and Walker while trailing. Cam looked uncomfortable when he had to be a pocket passer at the end.

And the sack he took was on fourth down at the end of the game, where you basically have to just heave the ball, or do absolutely anything other than take a sack.

I like Cam and want him to succeed, but that kind of poor situational decision making was part of the reason the Pats were 7-9 last year.

Yeah, that final play was basically ripped right off of last year's lowlight reel.

The Carolina offense was OK. The problem was the D gave up 27 points in 9 real drives.

Or at least, has some solidly retrograde views of women. It sucks to see him say stuff like this.
Bad enough to even think this stuff. But to say it while you're being recorded? Truly insane.

How buried in the sand do you have to be to not know these comments are going to be taken very negatively?

The Cam Defenders will be here soon enough. He doesn’t seem like a bad guy but completely out of touch,
Much like a lot of superstars from birth.

I mean Brady is also completely out of touch but he hasn’t put his foot in his mouth multiple times like this
Brady hasn't been within a million miles of saying something retrograde like this.

I also don't think Cams comments indicate he's out of touch. It indicates he just doesn't respect women. There are a gazillion people who aren't famous athletes who feel the same way.

Yeah, that is really disappointing to hear Cam have such sexist / misogynistic views (I don’t think “retrograde” goes far enough in describing his comments). Despite his track record of being a well-respected teammate, he seems like a guy that grew up being catered to and is just a spoiled shit who needs to realize the world doesn’t revolve around him (or men, in general).

He seems to be a fairly introspective guy at times, having recognized his immaturity and his behavior with women when he was younger, but at the same right, he has 7 children with 2 different women at 32 years old, as a guy whose parents were married for 36 years. This article had a bunch of quotes that seem pretty mature and self-aware at times, but still lead you to ask WTF? with regards to his actions. He seems like an active and involved Dad, which makes his comments about women even more disappointing to me.

https://www.essence.com/love/cam-newton-kids/

“We were both young. There was nothing, and still nothing I would never do for her. But at the same time, the person that she was when I met her, it wasn’t the person she was when I left her,” he said. “When I met Kia, and I say this protecting her, she wasn’t the one to be like, ‘I want to be married.’ I was more so the person, my parents been together 36 years. I know what marriage looks like: the ups, the downs, the trials, the tribulations.”
“I seen Kia really evolving into a woman where her standards were, ‘I ain’t just no baby mama,'” he said. “And when she kept putting pressure on me I was like, ‘I don’t know if this is what I really want.'”
“I was in temptation island. A football player, young, no is not even in my vocabulary,” he said. “I just found myself in this downward spiral. Did she deserve better? I would humbly say yes. She did.”
“I was falling deeper into my own selfishness and realizing I gotta be better,” he continued. “‘I hope you have the patience,’ which she did. And she was around me through a lot of success, a lot of downfalls and I respect her for that to this day, but it never led to the ultimate, which was a ring.”
The two are on good terms these days as co-parents to their kids, with Newton lauding her for how great she is with them. He is hopeful that if she meets someone special, they will understand the athlete’s place not only in their kids’ lives, but also the place he should still have in Proctor’s — and vice versa.
“The person that comes into her life and says, ‘I will accept you for everything, for kids and all,’ that day is going to come. I would just hope that they would respect that I’m a hands-on dad first. So you gon’ have to see me at some point,” he said. “I still hold some type of [weight] for her to be able to discern, I believe, just like she has the right to discern the day when I say, ‘I’m taking somebody serious and I want them to meet our children.’ She still has the right to say, ‘oh, uh uh. I don’t want her around our kids.’ I would respect that.”

Wait WTF I got a 2 week ban because I posted a picture of Trump as someone who doesn't respect women? That is is NO WAY a political post. It was before he was president, while he was president, and after he was president. Banned for 2 weeks without warning? WTF is going on?!

No. My regular tims4wins account was banned for 2 weeks. This is ridiculous. I've never posted anything remotely political outside of V&N. Hell, I don't even LOOK at V&N. Again, why the F was I banned for 2 weeks?

I didn't suspend you, but you posted a picture of Trump in a sports thread. You may not consider that politics, but it's semantics. The edict from the top is that stuff stays in V&N, and it's no secret. If folks don't understand that shit like that will earn a suspension by now, that's on them (you).

As for pitching a fit with your burner account, come the fuck on.

This feels like not-the-right approach to question a 2 week ban.

Some of you guys don't ignore enough people.

Whatever casual fans did or didn't know about Cam's past comments, these current ones will cost him some fans. And probably gain him a few too unfortunately.

Thanks to this thread I'm now aware my adolescent love of Death Metal has raised my propensity to be a necrophiliac cannibal.

Cam is a charismatic guy but I never thought he was likeable. His demeanor is endearing, the actual stuff that comes out of his mouth really isn't. To say something like that in public demonstrates a lack of judgement and decision making that would make me think twice about signing him even if he were still capable of throwing a football.

Holy moly.

WTF is happening here?

There is no grey area whatsoever when it comes to why these posters received their suspension. It was in the open and the rules are cut and dry.

This thread is closed for 24 hours.
