I've maintained from the beginning:

Kyrie will be back. Anthony Davis will be here as well. That's been the plan for quite some time, and I dont see a weird locker room dynamic changing that goal.

Nor should it. Gimme Kyrie and Davis. We can ride with that.

None of these media members have any idea where Kyrie is going. I’m not sure anyone but (and perhaps including) Kyrie know. And even if he does he could wake up tomorrow and decide that he doesn’t want to play for the Nets because they play home games too close to Three Mile Island.

This is where I'm at as well. Kyrie, like all veterans, was frustrated with the young players and wants Ainge to play a hand to bring in Davis and some reliable veteran role players. I expect this to be our direction this summer.

Isola this morning, “I’m hearing reports that people have seen Kyrie in NYC, of people seeing him in Orange, NJ where he lives.......”

Then Scal chimes in that there could be something to the Nets rumors and cites the fact that Kyrie sat out both Brooklyn games this year. Good god the media.

That’s it guys.....Kyrie has been spotted during the off-season in the town where he lives.

Scal had to be kidding right? In early January, Kyrie decided to sit out against the Nets because they had....cap space available in the offseason?

I agree. This always had the potential to be a weird year with all the uncertainty of this offseason looming. Everyone gets a mulligan and move forward.

They were discussing destinations and reports that random guy talked to Kyrie at the gym asking him about the Knicks then Kyrie said what about Brooklyn......and Scal threw the missed Nets game into the conversation as if to add validity. I like these guys when I'm in the car in the morning but today was quite the painful ride to my local Starbucks.

Sounds like comedy to me. It is similar to a joke from The Usual Suspects

I don't know if you have ever put anyone on Ignore here, but talk radio is full of guys that sound exactly like the dudes that one puts on ignore. The callers, the hosts, and most of the guests. It's a healthy combination of thoughtless takes or pure, revenues-based clickbait. It's almost always a painful ride for me.

I find the radio takes on the Celtics and Bruins to be the absolute worst. Sox and Pats talk is also generally bad but often bearable.

Scal is not immune to getting caught up in it.

They also get the better player. Wonder how heavily protected that 2020 pick is
It's lottery protected. Still a heavy prices to pay to get off one year of Crabbe's contract. With you on Taurean Prince though. He seems like the type of guy that Kenny Atkinson will mold into a useful 3 and D guy that gets massively overpaid on his next contract.

Brooklyn has so many options this summer. They can retain Russell and add a max guy. Let Russell walk and add two max guys. Add a max guy and use Russell in a S&T for another superstar (say to NO for Davis).

It would be quite something to end up with the Nets a better team than the Celtics after all these years of laughing at them for that horrific trade. Ugh.

More like KD and Kyrie. If Brooklyn gets what it wants, anyway.
Or Kyrie and Anthony Davis. They could easily package Russell with another player like Jarrett Allen or Caris Levert and make a real offer. They have a ton of options open to them.

That’s clearly the idea with their now two max slots. Pity they’re direct competitors since an Irving/Russell swap would help out both teams.

No chance for any sort of S+T with the Nets right? I don’t really care to have Kyrie back personally, but I would like to keep his salary space.

Eh. I mean eventually team's fortune's reverse. It was still a shitty trade.

I’m pretty sure Kyrie himself doesn’t know where he is going at the moment because, like the rest of us, he doesn’t know how the draft and various trades are going to play out. It’s very possible he’s thinking “let’s see if the Celtics can land AD or make another major move, if not maybe I’ll start fresh in Brooklyn.” And that’s actually a position I think many Celtics fans would agree with.

Regarding Kyrie coming back if AD comes to Boston, count me with KFP and HRB - I think things will be fine if that’s where we end up. Let’s not forget Paul Pierce was similarly on the verge of demanding out of Boston in 2007 before the trades that brought in Allen and Garnett. It’s not quite apples-to-apples but the point is that a good team with a few superstars can paper over a lot of past frustration.

I almost want to see this happen just to see the Knicks get screwed again hoping for multiple max free agents, then throw all their cap space at Kemba and Boogie or something like that...

It will be funnier still when they push their chips in on Davis and walks in the summer of 2020. (Well, potentially funnier since the Knicks are one of the teams that he’s listed a desire to play for. But the comedy will gather steam when he jilts the New York Tire Fires for the LA Dumpster Fires.)

Probably best for a post-playoffs free agent prediction thread, but I'll go:

Kyrie + AD: Knicks
Kawhi: Clippers
KD, Klay, Cousins: Warriors
Kemba: Hornets
Butler, Harris, Redick: 76ers (I think Philly's star has risen a bit with the Raptors so close to a title)
Middleton: Bucks
Russell: Nets

Pels get a young core of Zion, Barrett, Knox, DSJ, and MitchRob, with Jrue to babysit them.

Lakers get ... Asik?

I can't see Cousins taking the 6.4 million or whatever is the max that GSW can offer him. Someone would surely throw the full MLE at him

Kyrie is gone. Time to figure out Plan B.
This is where I am. I think there is no chance he will return and the only reason he isn’t saying that is to maintain leverage with the various suitors.

I’m OK with this. I have never enjoyed rooting for a great Boston player, in any sport, less. I never was more OK with a Boston team being eliminated from the playoffs. Even if Kyrie was objectively the best player to sign, I would still prefer they not bring him back. I mean yeah, if Irving was THE piece they needed to win a title, then sign away. But I don’t see that being the case in any way.

Conjecture, but I'd bet a lot that Cousins would give less than two whits about the ~$3M delta between his non-Bird $6.3M with the Warriors and the full MLE (which only the crappy, non-taxpaying teams have to offer in the first place).

My sense the only way he leaves is if he feels respected by a legitimate offer from another team (say, $20M+ a year for 3+ years), and with his injury history, the way he's looked in this playoffs, and the absolute glut of talented traditional centers on the market, I could easily see no $20M+ offers forthcoming.

Why does he need leverage?
I meant in contract negotiations. But the max he can get from his new team may already be set and, if so, I stand corrected.

In the end, Kyrie’s narrative or non-narrative means nothing to me. That was a side point.

I believe only 6 teams are looking at luxury tax payments this year. And one of those teams is MEM (although they may have ducked under, I am unsure). Doubtful I would consider the other 24 teams to be crappy.

Fair enough, strike "crappy." I still highly doubt the difference between $6.3M (assuming the Warriors offer it) v. the $9.3M MLE sways him even a little.

And if it’s the MLE for multiple years? Boogie hasn’t made THAT much money in his career yet: his 2nd contract was 70Mish (subtract half for taxes), and then he didn’t get the 150+ payday he had likely counted on. 6-12M guaranteed dollars could well be material for him.

Still strongly doubt it. I'd bet he's sufficiently confident in his skills, with another full offseason to recover from his Achilles, not to care too much about a $9M security blanket in 2020-2021 (and if there's no player opt-out, I could even see him considering a multi-year MLE deal a negative). Again, conjecture (and sorry for the thread hijack).

Boogie didn't exactly have a bunch of offers last season and he's not that much more desirable this offseason. He recovered from the Achilles, but didn't exactly look like his old self when he returned, promptly got hurt again and has looked fairly mediocre since. He probably needs another make-good contract to re-establish his value and show that he can stay healthy. Why not do that with the Warriors again?

Seems like Boogie should be able to pull the Jabari Parker contract if he wants as a "prove it" deal.

Yeah, if nothing else I could see the Lakers making him a one year offer to give them performance next year and maintain cap space for the summer of 2020.

The Warriors are fairly limited in what they can offer him.

He can almost certainly get more elsewhere.

I agree with this.

One of the teams that miss out on the bigger targets would likely throw him a bigger money, short term deal.

Lot of space out there and not enough stars to go around.

I'd also be very surprised if KD stayed in Golden State.

If Kyrie is leaving for NY or BKN, it makes perfect sense that he would string the Celtics along and not signal to Ainge that he's made up his mind. Why help a Division rival plan for next year?

Maybe he's waiting to see if the Celtics get Davis before making up his mind, but in that case you'd think he would be up front in private with Ainge about that. Reading between the lines from Danny's press conference the other day, I'm guessing that isn't the case.

Feels to me like Kyrie has his mind made up and is gone. But who really knows. Danny seems like a pretty good poker player too...
