I guess it was inevitable, but I am going to miss The Hopper. All he does is get guys out. Good luck to him, I hope we don't miss him.

In a craptacular 2014, he was one of the few bright spots.

prediction: we'll miss him and regret having Mujica signed for this season.  Hope I'm wrong.

Badenhop may be the only groundballer to elude Cherington's grasp this offseason.

I don't think there is any reason to link Badenhop to Mujica. The acquisition of Varvaro and the likely shift of Workman to the bullpen are far more related to how the replaced Badenhop's role than Mujica is. Mujica is the backup closer, God help us, and Badenhop was never going to be that guy. Though Badenhop does fit my "was good enough to have started major league games" criteria for relievers who tend to be more consistent, so i'll be watching him as I add data points to that thesis.

He has close famil in Boston and would have stayed here.

He lives in Charlotte, so while he may be from Ohio, I don't believe there is any significant family advantage to being there so the Sox must have not wanted him at that price. It's disappointing but his whole career has been like this. He was drafted late, spent four years in college and wasn't a prospect, was a 'throw-in' in the Cabrera trade, would win Minor League pitcher of the year for an organization and the expert commentary was all about his limited AAAA ceiling. Meanwhile he kept getting guys out.
