I am very much against bringing him back, he has zero place on this team. I understand the emotional/nostalgia attachment, but I'd rather win.
I just think they could use a little more finish around the Thornton can still do that. If it’s only a 3rd round pick it can’t hurt to have an extra guy with some skill.

He has 2 even strength goals this year. He hasn't scored over 20 goals this decade. Calling him a "finisher" makes no sense. He's old, slow, doesn't score, and isn't physical. They don't need more depth forwards, they need someone for one very specific spot. Give me Kuhlman over him 10 times out of 10 in the playoffs.

Yes this screams doing something to do something. Joe does not fit what the Bruins are trying to do at this point.

Really bummed they didn’t get Kreider. This is the time to go all in! See what Sweeney does these last couple of hours.

Not sure I understand that. Lots of PIM for Ritchie, not a lot of anything else.

For full nostalgia points, let's bring back Hal Gill and we can see how fast Joe can do cone drills if one of the cones is Hal Gill.

I assume that they got Ritchie to add a more physical player to the mix. Whether Ritchie makes it onto the ice regularly is anyone's guess.

So, in total:

Outgoing:
Backes (and 75% of his cap hit)
Danton Heinen
1st 2020
Axel Andersson

Incoming:
Nick Ritchie
Ondrej Kase

I think I like it in the aggregate. A bummer to lose Danton Heinen (I was still pretty high on him, but maybe that was me clinging to unfilled promise more than anything else) and another 1st round pick, but getting that cap relief - plus a scorer and a physical player - seem like a terrific return.

Adding Ritchie to this mix on 3rd line? 4th?

Marchand -Bergeron - Pastrnak
DeBrusk - Krejci - Kase
Bjork - Coyle - Kuhlman/Ritchie?
Nordstrom - Lindholm - Wagner/Ritchie?

Kuraly-Lindholm-Wagner, no? Ritchie's fit may be on the 3rd line or the 9th floor.
I think it will be Kuraly, Wagner, Nordstrom/Kuhlman/Lindholm on the 4th line. I'd prefer more Kuhlman. Ritchie will be on the 3rd line initially or the 9th floor.

I just copied CShea's practice lines, I probably should have put more thought into them.

I think they will try to work Ritchie in on that Coyle line, that gives you 6'3 220 and 6'2 235 on the same line and you can add in Bjork and they got a pretty good mix for a 3rd line. Can't see him ending up in the 9th floor behind Kuhlman/Lindholm/Nordstrom unless he really doesn't mesh with the team.

The 650lb line discounted down from the 700lb line and they didn't even need to bring back Thornton.

Solid work by Sweeney. The Kase deal was the big one, he’s here to hopefully be the 2RW answer. Heinen for Ritchie is more of a traditional “hockey trade.” Ritchie will bring some of the physical/toughness elements that the team has been criticized for not having. Heinen seemed to lose confidence over the year and slipped behind Bjork and Kuhlman on the depth chart. I think we could see Ritchie on either the 3rd or 4th line.

Marchand - Bergeron - Pastrnak
DeBrusk - Krejci - Kase
Ritchie - Coyle - Bjork
Nordstrom - Kuraly - Wagner
Blidh, Kuhlman

That’s probably their ideal lineup, but that have options. Kuhlman can go in, Ritchie can play the 4th line, etc. They could give Studnicka some run down the stretch.

On defense, they have 19 games to sort out the 6th D.

Chara - McAvoy
Krug - Carlo
Grzelyck - Lauzon
Moore - Clifton
Miller as a wild card #9. Vaakanainen #10.

Finally, the cap component to the deadline deals can’t be overlooked. They are in better shape today than they were a week ago. They’re talking with Krug’s camp so I’d imagine something gets done soon-ish.

Also, Sweeney says Ritchie will likely play tomorrow but they’re not sure about Kase. They might give him one more practice.
