Bruins to acquire Lindholm

I've been critical of Sweeney, but if you can disappear the Rinaldo acquisition down the memory hole, his track record on trades is pretty darn good. I'm still not sold that the Bruins have had a solid draft strategy during his tenure, but if he could just hold off on headache-inducing FA signings this team would be in stupendous shape.

Regarding Lindholm's deployment, maybe they can do a bit of a variable first pairing depending on situation? O-zone draws I maybe consider Grz+McAvoy for their ability to move the puck and generate offense. Elsewhere, and especially on the PK, Lindholm+McAvoy is an elite lockdown pairing. Excited to see how this all plays out.

Debut:

23:26 TOI (14:13 ES)

At 5x5

Attempts 22-11
Shots 13-4
Scoring chances 11-5
High danger 7-1
Expected goals 1.44-0.30 (83%)
Actual goals 2-0
Assist

He was oustanding. In addition to the 5x5 play he logged over 3 minutes on the PP, 2 minutes on the PK and was on the ice in the 6x5 at the end of the game. The small area touch plays and passes to trigger breakouts were a breath of fresh air. At even strength Lindholm and McAvoy were mostly matched up against Cirelli - Point - Kucherov and dominated them.

Eye test wise, he looked like the real deal. Big, extremely good skater. Known for his defensive work but he can really transition the puck, he was amazing getting the puck out of tight spaces.

At some point I would like to see what he does next to Carlo, but the potential is there for Lindholm - McAvoy to be an absolute dominant pairing.

I haven't followed the Bruins as closely as I used to, and I have no idea who Lindholm is. But the Bruins gave up a king's ransom for him.
If you have no idea who Lindholm is how can you possibly opine on what his cost was?

Wow, talk about grabbing an old post out of context. Maybe look at my subsequent posts before the potshots.

Hint: I said they paid a lot. I didn’t say they overpaid or shouldn’t have done it.

His pass to Haula on Pasta's first was a beautiful, subtle play. Held off Hagel, who was riding his back and kept his stick open like he was going to pass to Hall that froze #17 in place and forced the other Lightning guy in the middle of the ice to move further towards the boards giving him just enough space to get the puck to Nosek in a spot where he could (1) catch it and (2) didn't have immediately making a play on the puck.

I was thinking they could deploy him and McAvoy like the Chara and Seidenberg "break glass when needed" shutdown pairing from 2011.

Yeah, that's kind of why I want to see what Lindholm - Carlo looks like. We have a decent enough sample to know Grz - McAvoy is an excellent pair, let's see if Lindholm can anchor a pair with Carlo. Then they can cover almost an entire game with one of Lindholm or McAvoy on the ice, and the two can be paired together situationally.
