Is this bad news on the Rask (out longer than expected), Vladar, or Swayman front?

Between here and everywhere.
Huh.

I have to wonder if this signifies a trade coming for one of the young goalies. Ullmark could have gotten a starting job somewhere, I imagine.

I don't think so. I think we're likely looking at a Ullmark/Vladar tandem to start the year for asset management purposes since Swayman is exempt from waivers while Vladar is not. They can re-evaluate as performance dictates. When Rask is healthy, they can make a decision on him as well.

Linus seems like he will be a helpful security blanket for the goalie position. Hopefully he'll be worth the money he's getting paid and won't turn into a great pumpkin.

I don’t get this at all. Swayman earned the right to at least be the NHL backup this year.
Bruins are not going to be hamstrung by Swayman "earning" anything.

Ullmark is a proven vet. Vladar can start the year as a backup, and can be traded or waived if he's not good enough or if Swayman tears it in Providence. The team is too much in GFIN while the Bergeron/Marchand window is open to leave the netminding to 2 unproven rookies.

I think Swayman has a "new goalie without scouting" bump that is going to bring him back down from his .945/1.50GAA in 10 games. I like this move, and Vladar or Swayman can be moved with DeBrusk for an asset

I think we need to pump the breaks a little bit with Swayman. He was outstanding last year but he's only played 19 games outside of college. Young goalies can be fickle. Look at Carter Hart. There's nothing wrong with letting Swayman continue developing in the AHL. If he forces his way here, they can easily accommodate him.

And Andrew Raycroft and Blaine Lacher.

I like this but I'm feeling kinda sad. Likely means Rask is done. Swayman looks great but Ullmark is a really good goaltender and they are almost $4m per year lower than last year in net.

Thanks, Tuukka.

Why would Ullmark sign here long term if he wasn't going to be the #1/1a goalie? I don't see Rask in this team's plans.

Maybe Rask signs in January or something, plays out the second half of the season, and retires.

If Swayman sucks next year, Tuukka has a very easy path back to Boston.
My original thought at seeing 4x$5m was Rask may be done, but he very easily could come back late in the season.

This does make that less likely though, which definitely makes me sad. Some folks just have no idea how good Rask is (he belongs in the HOF) because of how easy he makes it look. I sure hope it’s not the end for him in Boston. It’s been a true pleasure to watch and I hope it’s not the last time I see him play.

I haven’t watched enough of Ullmark to know if this is a good deal, but am very surprised at both the term and cost. Trading Vladar leaves them a bit thin depth wise, but Kyle Keyser is no slouch so I expect him to get a lot more Providence time this year.

I love this signing and was hoping he was the Goalie they were targeting (although didn’t realize he would get $5m per annum). He was very good on a horrible team — Dom liked him a lot. I think Ullmark/Swayman has the potential to be a really strong tandem. Now let’s move Debrusk for a top 4 defensemen. . .

Tuukka has made it clear he doesnt want to play anywhere but Boston (why doesnt this man get more love in this fucking city?) My ideal situation would be:

Tuukka takes the year to get completely right. Swayman plays great in his 25ish games. Bruins trade Swayman at the end of the '22 season and cash in on him before he makes starting goalie money. Tuukka is healthy for the 2023 season and signs a 2 for 2.5m contract to prove his health. Bruins get a 1A/1B goalie tandem where they can ride the hot hand, but also keep bodies fresh for playoffs.

Bruins win the next 3 Stanley Cups, then Patrice Bergeron signs a 1 season, 15m contract with MTL. He carries them to the playoffs and squares up against the Bruins in round one at the Garden. Patrice lines up at center ice to take the games first drop against perennial allstar and new Bruin captain Jack Eichel. As the boos reign down on Bergeron, the puck drops...and neither center goes for the faceoff. Bergeron drops his stick, tears off his jersey, and...OH MY GOD! ITS A BRUINS JERSEY!!1! THE CROWD IS GOING CRAZY!!! Bergeron kicks Gallagher in the stomach, Eichel skates over and grabs him by the head...STUNNER! STONE COLD STUNNER!!!!

Let Rask heal up, trade Swayman, roll out a Ullmark/Rask duo for a few seasons.

I'd say change the Tuukka 2023 deal to 2 yr/$3MM. Otherwise, I see the next few years unfolding exactly according to the scenario that you've laid out.

Ullmark has remarkably good numbers playing for a HORRIBLE team, his contract is quite reasonable, and now the Bruins have very good options going forward. I think it's not said enough about how green Swayman really is, he's got very very little pro experience. Ullmark is the number 1, Swayman gets his feet wetter as a pro, and Rask heals up. When Rask is healthy then we can look at the options and decide from there.
