Opponent is the New York Islanders.

On the injury front:

Sweeney says they hope to have Lauzon and Zboril ready and available for game 1.

Kase and Steven Kampfer (hand surgery) are being shut down for the year. There are rumors that Kampfer is signing in the KHL but Sweeney defers to Kampfer on that.

Miller is "in the recovery phase"

Timing wise could line up with a packed Garden
Could? It's guaranteed. The other series won't end until Wednesday at the earliest, so the series start is Saturday at the earliest. And if they play the Pens then the next home game would be next Wednesday 6/2

Thanks. I meant the first game could line up with Day 1 of the new guidance... making it an amazing launch into the new normal.

Games 3 and 4 of the Canes/Preds series were good enough as is but to have that packed arena going nuts was a sight to behold. It makes watching the Canadian games a real downer.

I wonder what "fill in the gaps" means.

They should have those shots done today.

They got so lucky with regard to being able to thread the needle on avoiding any serious chance of second-shot side effects, but the longer they wait, well....

I was holding out hope for Kase, but so it goes.

This is 4 years in a row we get to have a second round thread, right?

How fucking lucky are we?
It really is quite the achievement. It's obviously not the goal, but the accomplishment shouldn't be overlooked either. It's very, very hard to win a round in the playoffs. And they've done so with tough draws in the first round. Toronto, Toronto, Carolina, Washington. Carolina was the weakest of the bunch and they got screwed by the stupid seeding round BS but still made quick work of the Canes. The Capitals won the Cup in 2018 and have failed to win around since. It's not easy to do.

Are we still fucking Tom Wilson?

Hoping for the Isles, but I'm fine with the Penguins, too. I'm very confident in this team's ability to make a run.

I'm puzzled by this too. Everyone gets their second dose today or even tomorrow, and any side effects are gone by the time R2 starts. What are we missing?

As for PITT vs. NYI, I know plenty of FLIDs and Yinzers, so can say with certainty that both fanbases can be insufferable. NYI gets extra credit for being a NY team. I think it's a wash for more annoying accent. I think Yinzers are far more delusional, as New Yorkers can be pompous, but are also generally more self-aware. I think Pitt fans in general have PTSD from all the Pats-Steelers encounters. Then again, NYI allegiances typically align with Jets fans...Unclear which group is more likely to cause wanton violence against person or property.

Conclusion: I have more Pens friends than NYI so bring on the trash from the Island!

There might be solid info out there that I am unaware of but do we know everyone has had a first shot? And when the first shot was given? It's possible that not everyone is eligible for a second shot and others have already had it. Hence "filling in the gaps".

We don't really have a ton of info. All we really know is that prior to the Capitals series Cam Neely said the team was in the "80s percentage wise" in getting the first dose (I think that's the threshold for loosening restrictions 2-weeks post dose #2). At the same time, Neely said they were trying to figure out a schedule to get a "large group" the 2nd dose but the playoff schedule made that challenging. The first we heard of players getting vaccinated was on 4/21 so they can get the 2nd dose whenever.

I'm guessing some of the staff has already had it, plus maybe an injured player or two. Weird way to phrase it, but I think "fill in the gaps" means get #2 to the remaining players and staff that haven't had it. The players are off until Wednesday, so I think they likely are getting them today/tomorrow. Guess we will find out on Wednesday.

Despite this ludicrous loss in their game 5, Pittsburgh can be legitimately explosive and that, combined with the refs giving calls to Pittsburgh and then the home ice advantage, all adds up to me wanting the Islanders, the more I think of it. Ideally the NYIs win it in something like the 5th OT of game seven.

I don't care who they face - I just want a fair/reasonable whistle in the series they do play. Is that an unrealistic request???

Home ice advantage with a packed garden is a real edge but there is some level of comfort facing Jarry for 4-7 games vs. Sorokin and that suffocating NYI D.
Jarry gives me Halak flashbacks from last years playoffs, haven't seen a glove that leaky in a while.

That suffocating NYI defense gave up 50 shots last night. I didn't watch the whole game but it wasn't all low quality stuff from the outside. I think I'm in the give me NYI camp.

This is where I am at too. Isles would be a tough matchup since they play tough D with structure and are well coached but they are missing Anders Lee. Pens have a more elite offense.

You know it is. This is the NHL, they are the Bruins. If the refs can figure out a way to screw them, they will. Didn't they once get called for Delay of Game for passing the puck back and forth in their own zone during a PP?

I remember reading about that in the broad Street bullies book I forget if it was the flyers or the Bruins though. Rules are strange way back when, you couldn't pass it back into your defensive zone without taking a penalty back in the twenties.

It's the twenties now, lol!

Oh, I am unaware of any such old rule. I guess I thought RRA was referring to something more recent.

I could've sworn that they got an absurd DoG penalty for something like that in the last 5 years or so. My googlefu is not strong enough to find any hits on it, but I have distinct emotional memories of being outraged over it.

Are you thinking of when the Flyers just held it and just passed back and forth against Tampa (?) during the Boucher trap years?

I was thinking of that as evidence that there is no such delay of game rule. The Flyers "delayed the game" for up to a few minutes in each case and I don't think that they got penalized for it.

It’s sad that I remembered that off the top of my head, down to Pronger being involved, yet I have no idea what I’m supposed to do at work today.

I’m guessing, but here’s my interpretation:

They have less than 85% with 1st shots or fully vaccinated. Therefore, “filling in” means that in addition to the group getting their second shots, they need 1 or 2 people that are unvaccinated to get a shot this week to get to the required 85%.
Here’s the travel policy:

I don't think there was an issue with compelling guys to get it. The issue was the timing of giving the players the 2nd shot. Given the side effects, they didn't want to do it in the middle of a playoff series.

New York stinks, but the Penguins aren't built to beat them and Boston is. It won't be a long series.

If anyone is looking to go to a game in round two, let me know before paying the crazy ticketmaster prices and fees.

Tony, it’s funny, I thought about you today and reaching out. You hooked me up in 2019. If the Isles win tonight, I would like to go to G1 with my wife. If the Pens win in 7, I’ll be the loudest Bruins fan in Pittsburgh for one of their games.
