Per the Bruins twitter account.

Curious move here. It is not an emergency recall, so have to wonder if the Chad Johnson era is coming to an end. Svedberg posted a shutout last night for the Baby B's.

Very curious move. I have no idea why the Bruins would shake things up right unless Johnson (or Tuukka) was hurt or there was a trade in place for Johnson. I can't see the wisdom in waiving an above average backup who is basically making the league minimum in order to call up your best goalie prospect and have him ride the bench.

Edit: I misspoke, Subban is definitely their best prospect. I should say "most NHL ready" prospect. Then again...if he's the most NHL ready maybe he should be up here.

Maybe Svedberg can play wing and we didn't know it?

Providence is off until next Friday, maybe they're just throwing him a bone letting him practice with the team

edit: The calendar on their website is fubar.  Nevermind

Interesting considering his numbers have taken a step back this season.  SV% down from .925 to .907.  Meanwhile Subban is at .916

Wonder if they're highlighting Svedberg for a trade? His contract is up at the end of the year and if they know they won't be able to retain him, rather than letting him walk for nothing may be able to get some controlled piece in return.

Posted this while I was typing. I saw that as well maybe they feel ok giving more workload to Subban and see how he responds?

Carrying Svedberg around just to get a look-see in practice or 1 game seems like a waste of cap space. Kelly is on LTIR, so I guess it's not a huge deal but I'd prefer to bank some cap space for any possible deadline moves.

Claude confirms the feel Svedberg has earned an opportunity and they want a look at Svedberg. He's not up just to practice, he'll get a start at some point. He'll serve as the backup tonight, but he could play tomorrow in Ottawa or Tuesday against the Isles.

I think there's a (publically, at least) unspoken warning for Johnson in this, too.  He needs to outperform Svedberg to keep his job; no more softies on wraparounds.

That warning could exist without Svedberg sitting next to him on the bench, though. And, besides, what's the point of warning Johnson? He's been better than what could be expected, he's never going to be perfect or anything. It's not like he's a rookie they're trying to teach.

It might be a trade showcase, as timlin asks above. They may be comfortable with Subban as Providence's #1, and feel they have to move Svedberg with Rask locked up, Svedberg's contract being up, and Subban as a better prospect.

However, the difference on the cap space isn't that much, and they might be developing more serious concerns about giving Johnson an extended workload to rest Rask. If Finland rides Rask in the Olympics, the Bruins are going to have to give their backup a lot of games down the stretch. They will need points in those games, and if they feel Johnson can't handle that workload then it makes sense if they see whether Svedberg can handle the NHL game.

And I'm not worried about the cap space. I don't want the Bruins doing anything at the deadline. They just need to get healthy.

Svedberg has been recalled again today. I would assume this means he gets a start either tonight or Saturday afternoon.

98.5 is reporting he was first off the ice at the morning skate and the likely starter for tonight.

It seems reasonable to expect the back-up goalie, whether it's Johnson or Svedberg, will get a bunch of starts pre- and post-Sochi.

B's management may just want to see Svedberg in NHL action before they decide whether to give Johnson or Svedberg those starts.
