The Bruins need the hockey equivalent of Thibs — they look absolutely awful in their own zone. Goal after goal coming from the heart of the slot.

Say, where’s Claude Julien, these days?

Hire Clode!

I was saying in another thread, I was one of the leading proponents of firing Claude in 2016. This team could really use Claude.

Sweeney and Neely can’t be considered blameless, they assembled this squad based on a haphazard scheme to get bigger and tougher than the bully Panthers. CShea made a compelling case that it’s not the new guys who are responsible for the shittastic play and individually speaking, apart from Tufte (gone) and Jones (harder to move), the new guys have been fine. But this team is so much less than the sum of its parts that the anticipated synergy among and between its components looks seriously misguided, not to mention a poor match for an emphasis on sustained possession leading to high-percentage scoring chances.

If the team were bread, it would not rise, if it were stew, it would not thicken, if it were Kimchi, it would remain stubbornly unfermented. The ingredients are just critically off/missing and that’s on Mr. Don Sweeney as much as Monty.

Sinden came down and owned his poorly-meshing ingredients by stepping behind the bench — there’s precedent for this.

The problem is it's the guys that have been here 8+ years, McAvoy, Carlo, Marchand and Pasta that are noticeably playing way worse this season. Brad yeah he's 36 and 3 surgeries, but the other 3? What changed? Why are they all collectively struggling more than last season, along with Geekie, Freddy, H Lindolm and Coyle? One or two guys starting slow happens, but basically the whole roster remaining from last season? What changed? Something isn't right in that room and/or scheme

Usually when everyone is standing around it’s because no one knows where to go. That’s on coaching.

I know, I agree with you, but some people don't feel that way(not saying that is what catomatic was insinuating), and laying out that info like that really drives home the point that this has very little to do with the new guys/Sway's contract(why are people on the internet bitching about this??). The team is collectively having a terrible season, I don't know how that's not on coaching first and foremost

They seem to lack a critical amount of belief and, dare I say it, pride. Either the unbroken streak of futility against the Panthers has broken them or they lack an animating chemistry or they have no faith in their coach. Or an uneven ratio of all of them. They’re unwatchable though, and that usually falls on the coach.

Agreed. And I hate wanting someone to lose their job for no "real" reason, but it's basically the only lever to pull. Whether they want to pull it soon is the question

I’ll bet they give Monty more run. It’s just almost incomprehensible that they’re this poor of a team, this year, and people can be forgiven for being a little paralyzed by it — and wanting this coach and this group to simply snap out of their malaise.

I mentioned Claude before, maybe others did too, but I think his defining idea was that offense comes naturally out of a very strong defensive structure. There’s a lot of focus on their piss poor shot totals, and rightly so, but the goal totals for their opponents point to serious and fundamental disarray in their own zone. Start there, I say. Get the charmin-soft DMen to up their battle-level, snarl more, clean out the net front more, get the slot patrolled better and win board battles that start better breakouts. Play harder hockey back there, and see if that confidence doesn’t create more fluid entries and aggressive creativity at the other end.

But someone needs to read them the riot act like, tonight...
