I got a feeling that it’s Forbort to LTIR. Maybe whatever was bothering him is surgical now? There has to be another move coming, unless Forbort is going LTIR?
They don’t have the capspace for this and Maroon, I think.
There are not too many players in the NHL that I’ve never heard of, and this is one of them.Think there's gotta be something else from a cap perspective. Forbort to LTI maybe?
I'll be honest I don't know a ton about Peeke. Bigger dude, appears to be a defensive defenseman. Only 25 years old, but signed for 2 more seasons.
Dude is basically a younger Forbort, which….great.I got a feeling that it’s Forbort to LTIR. Maybe whatever was bothering him is surgical now?
It'd be an awful lot for CBJ to retain. Not so much in terms of dollars but with the limit on the retention slots, teams can only retan on 3 players at a time. So CBJ would essentially be tying one up for the next 2 years.I hope there’s some retention because the Bs seem to be pretty good at finding depth defensemen (see Clifton, Wotherspoon) cheaply and I hate the idea that a 6/7 guy is getting almost 3M a year for the next two seasons after this.
Thanks for this because who?
Hoo boy, does this feel like a bad deal in the making.Bruins give up a 2027 3rd in this too.

I'm more partial to the 3rd for Zac Rinaldo, but they are really closeEasily the worst move Sweeney has made to date. Puke all around
I forgot about Rinaldo. That’s still the leader in the clubhouse for worse move, but this one could be a contender.I'm more partial to the 3rd for Zac Rinaldo, but they are really close
I was just googling that deal to make sure I had the name right to post the same. On face this deal looks awful, but they must have seen something so hoping for the best. Expecting it to be a complete waste of a pick the team desperately needsI'm more partial to the 3rd for Zac Rinaldo, but they are really close
No, his contract was fully burried.Possibly dumb question, if so I apologize.Zbotil is in PVD but did any of his salary hit the Boston Salary cap that is now going to CBJ?
Maybe they think that they can turn him into Adam McQuaid? That’s the only thing that makes sense. Still, you get guys like this in the summer after they buy him out.I was just googling that deal to make sure I had the name right to post the same. My biggest issue is with the cap space.Even if they think they can fix them why are they paying the freight as if he is fixed?
A depth Dman at 3M/yr with no retention isn't worth a future 3rd plus Zboril. Zboril I can live with since it is clear the FO has no interest in him but a future 3rd is real value. Just a dumb move with limited upside and significant downside.
Agree, the 3rd should have bought 50% as they have been used consistently this deadline by others to buy cap space. Even at 1.5/2yrs he is probably an overpay but at least you are getting something for the 3rd.My biggest issue is with the cap space.
Right? Like I hated when they signed middling bottom 6/3rd pair players at $3 mil like Forbort. Now they want to give up actual draft capital for the ability to overpay someone? I can remove emotion and at least see the reasoning behind most sports moves, but I'm struggling with this oneMaybe they think that they can turn him into Adam McQuaid? That’s the only thing that makes sense. Still, you get guys like this in the summer after they buy him out.
I had a feeling something dumb like this was going to happen when Jaffe on the post game last night said that internally their not happy with their size and toughness or something to that effect. That’s really Sweeney’s weak spot. Probably because Neely’s breathing down his neck telling them they need to add size if they go through a stretch where they get pushed around a little. So they literally just lit $5.5 million in cap space on fire. This is Donnie's weak spot. Loves overpaying these depth guys.
It would have beenfunnier if this were not a function of the system. Here's the top result on an Andrew Peeke youtube search:

Ever since the Bruins closed the 2023 regular season 15-1 with Forbort absent for all but one of those games, I have been counting the days until Boston would be rid of this turbulent priest. And then double-down Donny goes out and burns a third-round pick to acquire another one.I had a feeling something dumb like this was going to happen when Jaffe on the post game last night said that internally their not happy with their size and toughness or something to that effect. He blocks shots? He's 9th among defensemen in blocked shots/60 over the past 2 seasons.I would have preferred they do nothing. Athletic gave it a big fat "D", and as noted above, seemed entirely perplexed the Bruins would do this.
Is there any stat that supports this other than "he's just 25"? He couldn't play for a terrible Columbus team. He's not going to play here all of a sudden on a better team.
Season is over, might even be two surgeries.Forbort needs surgery per Sweeney. On LTIR.
