I'll be honest I don't know a ton about Peeke. Bigger dude, appears to be a defensive defenseman. Only 25 years old, but signed for 2 more seasons.

There are not too many players in the NHL that I’ve never heard of, and this is one of them.
I hope there’s some retention because the Bs seem to be pretty good at finding depth defensemen (see Clifton, Wotherspoon) cheaply and I hate the idea that a 6/7 guy is getting almost 3M a year for the next two seasons after this.
It'd be an awful lot for CBJ to retain. Not so much in terms of dollars but with the limit on the retention slots, teams can only retan on 3 players at a time. So CBJ would essentially be tying one up for the next 2 years.
He's big and blocks shots. We'll see what the Bruins can do with him. He hasn't played for a real team yet.

A depth Dman at 3M/yr with no retention isn't worth a future 3rd plus Zboril. Zboril I can live with since it is clear the FO has no interest in him but a future 3rd is real value. Just a dumb move with limited upside and significant downside.

Maybe they think that they can turn him into Adam McQuaid? That’s the only thing that makes sense. Still, you get guys like this in the summer after they buy him out.
That 2015 draft continuing to haunt the Bs. Even when they trade one of those guys, it ends up being a terrible deal.

Agree, the 3rd should have bought 50% as they have been used consistently this deadline by others to buy cap space. Even at 1.5/2yrs he is probably an overpay but at least you are getting something for the 3rd.

Right? Like I hated when they signed middling bottom 6/3rd pair players at $3 mil like Forbort. Now they want to give up actual draft capital for the ability to overpay someone? I can remove emotion and at least see the reasoning behind most sports moves, but I'm struggling with this one

I’m trying not to wig out while awaiting anymore information on this deal, but it seems like one of Donnie’s more questionable moves in some time unless current info is off somehow, which I really hope it is. .
I had a feeling something dumb like this was going to happen when Jaffe on the post game last night said that internally their not happy with their size and toughness or something to that effect. That’s really Sweeney’s weak spot. Probably because Neely’s breathing down his neck telling them they need to add size if they go through a stretch where they get pushed around a little. So they literally just lit $5.5 million in cap space on fire.

Ever since the Bruins closed the 2023 regular season 15-1 with Forbort absent for all but one of those games, I have been counting the days until Boston would be rid of this turbulent priest. And then double-down Donny goes out and burns a third-round pick to acquire another one.
I love dogs but but no canine is worth having to watch two players more confounded by having wood in their hands than a eunuch.
He blocks shots? He's 9th among defensemen in blocked shots/60 over the past 2 seasons.
There is something to getting players out of bad situations. He's gonna go from playing big minutes on a god awful team to less minutes on a good team. It's not terrible and they've been able to unearth some of these guys in the past. The problem is that in this case they're not paying a reclamation project price, they're paying a premium.
Obviously a flawed stat and all, but my eyes bugged out of my head at the -41 +/- last season. Woof!
