Who Is Fabian Lysell?:
Fabian Lysell is a 5 foot 10 172lb Swedish right-winger that spent the last year playing with Luleå HF of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). He only managed three points in 26 games in the SHL but showed a lot more promise when playing against his age level in the U18s, scoring nine points in seven outings.

The main draw to Lysell is his skating and his stick skills on both ends of the puck. He might be one of the best skaters in this draft class with lightning-quick acceleration and a good first step. This makes him a handful for opposing players as giving even a little bit of space with the puck will likely lead to him blowing past for a scoring chance.

This, of course, makes him a dangerous offensive weapon every time he is on the ice, but don’t think that Lysell is a one-trick pony. Despite a rather small frame, he is an effective back-checker that uses his stick to create turnovers and cause general chaos for attacking players. Furthermore, after causing a turnover he is excellent in transitioning up the ice.

Well now I feel bad for pre-mocking an assumed selection of a guy with 3rd line plugger upside.

The draft difficulties were under a major spotlight so it‘s a pretty smart move by Donny to go with more of a consensus pick, and a speed/skill guy at that.

He doesn’t have the elite playmaking of Panarin or Marner, I think the Ehlers comp is pretty accurate though. Great skater, great in transition, can score and is responsible defensively.

He does have some similarities with Pasta, both ridiculously skilled players who fell because they were unproven against competition.

I love this pick.

Yeah, that’s fairly apt in terms of the draft. They both were viewed as highly skilled RW who slid to the 20’s and were picked by Boston. If Lysell turns into 50% of Pasta we’re in business.

Yah, my Pasta comp was a "it reminds me of" ... a winger playing in Sweeden with great feet and hands. I agree with if he can be 50% of Pasta, it is still a win (I mean a 20 goal scorer is a 20 goal scorer). I like the reviews that he is a 200 foot player

He's definitely the most exciting prospect we've had in a while, probably McAvoy.

Guessing training camp will determine where he plays this year. They could send him to Vancouver in the WHL if they don't feel he's ready for Providence. That's what they did with Lauko. If he pops in camp they can start him in Providence right away like they did with Pastrnak.
