Sure but both times they moved them to get much better players than you expect to draft, as long as Wyc will write checks moving 1sts one year in advance is a nice way to get more talent at low risk
Really like this move. The team is now really deep. The Thomas Bryant rumors make even more sense now.
Smart can really just play focus on playing the Tony Allen role now, I hope, with some additional passing. But we shouldn't have to watch him run the offense for long stretches anymore.

Yeah, the C's sure benefitted from Romeo and AN.
It's not a big deal, the C's aren't in a position to develop rookies. Plus, they just opened a bajillion roster spots.
I think it's more the turnovers than anything else. Smart's shooting isn't the problem.
I fucking love this move, and see no compelling reason to rush to trade one of White/Smart, given that we finally have the kind of guard depth we've been pining for. I'd be stoked to sign another big - preferably Thomas Bryant - and see how the team looks to start the season.
Though if they are looking at moving one of the current guards, I wonder if there's a way to get involved in a multi-team deal for Collins. Can't see ATL wanting White/Smart straight up now that they have Murray.

I'd still do it for just one 1st, and dumping Theis, but definitely riskier.
How does this trade work from a cap perspective? He makes too much for the TPE and I don’t think the salaries match.
Man you could start small too and field Brogdon-Smart-JT-JB-TL and that way you can limit Horford's minutes at 36 years old. You still have White as 6th man, Pritchard, Horford, Grant and Danilo off the bench.

Dealing Theiss is also a win. He was absolutely abused on the defensive end for huge chunks of the playoffs. And he offers very little offensively. Glad he's off the roster.
And unlike Jaylen, Brogdon is an excellent FT shooter (88% career and 86% last year vs. 71% and 76% for Jaylen).
They added Stauskas, Fitts and Morgan to match salaries.

I think they saw, like us, that they need more playmaking especially with the 2nd unit.
Brad explicitly called out playmaking as a need after the finals. Didn't think he meant it this hard though...love it.
And that's why Smart/White/Brogdon can all co-exist. Injuries are likely to make enough minutes available, and also we can keep everyone fresh for the playoffs.
It's always a stark reminder that sports are just a business when a cult hero like Malik Fitts is so suddenly torn away. God speed, sweet prince.
Jesus Christ, this is like one of those trades someone proposes on the 93.7 or 98.5, all the guys one team doesn't need for someone on the other team that's pretty good.
Not to quibble, but we didn't just need playmaking, we needed someone who could score and get the ball moving without coughing it up every couple minutes, especially in crunch time. There's no reason anymore for Smart or Jaylen to have the ball in their hands for long stretches of time in disadvantageous matchups. Teams are going to really struggle to double-team Tatum if Brogdon is out there at the end of games instead of Smart or White. My two cents.

I tend to agree with you here. Playmaking, ball handling, creating were all needs. Brogdon can get to the line and he shoots almost 90% from the line. Good defensively too. In terms of what the team needed, a healthy Brodgon is it.
With Horford being 35 or 36, adding 2 decent players and losing none of your core 7 seems like a no brainer.

I see exactly one bonafide All-Star PG in Brogdon, Smart, who has really been miscast as a PG and is really better when he's focusing on defense, White, who's best as a back-up, and PP, who is a point guard... in summer league.
I'd think someone bigger than that is going out.
Unless the Celtics start smaller, or move Horford, I sadly think Smart is going out.
I don't see either Brogdon or Smart being happy coming off the bench, and they shouldn't be.

I guess the injury history did a number on Brogdon's value, but I'm still a little surprised the Pacers couldn't get more for him. Maybe they like Nesmith and think they can flip Theis to a contender at some point, but the first rounder Boston sent them seems unlikely to be particularly good. This trade feels all about getting the most minutes possible for Duarte and Haliburton, which I like for the Pacers, as Brogdon doesn't really fit with the rest of the roster at this point.

Just getting back into hoops after not watching much for twenty years but why? He's pretty cheap and not a terrible fourth guard/ninth or tenth man, especially with some injury prone points in front of him.
So we just dumped 5 people we don't need for someone who could possibly be playing in the crunch time in the Finals??? Sign me up!!
I assume a lot of load games off for Horford, Brogdon, Time Lord, etc. and not prioritizing top seeding
