Wow, this is a story that deserves its own thread.

Thread title is a little weird because … well, Mr. Favre isn’t exactly a paragon of integrity. But we normally believe even scoundrels when they announce news like this about their own health; I assume it’s true.

There has been chatter that a diagnosis for a young-ish retired star like Favre would trigger a sea change in attitudes toward football. Will it?

I somehow don't think Parkinsons will change attitudes after all the suicides and heart attacks and other CTE related deaths failed to do much.

He played 19 years until he was 40 with most of those seasons coming under the old rules about hitting QBs. That will be enough for most players to rationalize playing football. They'll view his diagnosis as not applicable to themselves.

My mom has Parkinson’s. It’s a terrible disease and I don’t wish it on anyone.

But fuck him. He’s a terrible person. Also:

No. Concussions and CTE didn’t change anything. Domestic violence didn’t change anything. Banning political speech didn’t change anything. Why would a disease afflicting a terrible person change something?

The only thing that will change anything is a strong union and as of now it does not exist. Fans are not going to drive changes. Media won't either. Has to come from players. And it has to be the current generation.

Favre may be an asshole. He's also out of the arena and disgraced to boot. That doesn't mean the issue can't be picked up by others. If Mahomes came out now and made a major stand on head injuries, and rallied a critical mass of other superstars, people would listen.

Body-bagged him.

Feel bad for Favre and probably his family mostly, but he’s still a POS.

The countdown has to be on for some media member to take offense to Sterger’s response and embarrass himself/herself in the process.

I don’t disagree with you, but with a strong union calling the shots, what shots would they call to change the issue with head injuries?

Good for Jenn Sterger..

Sports hate is one thing. Brett Favre has proven to be a truly reprehensible person in a real way. I don't feel badly for him.

If I understand correctly, his contribution yesterday was to blame the state for not catching him stealing, so ....yes to all this......:

I didn't realize Parkinson's made you commit welfare fraud.
Brett Farve is an epic piece of shit and always has been. I’m glad it’s finally come to light.

Favre's transgressions -- and they're more than alleged at this point since he's already paid restitution minus interest that he's still on the hook for -- are severe enough IMHO that he should be effectively banned from the NFL including punditry and waving at the 50 yard line to recognize the 1997 team. More-so, he has no business being in the public eye for anything let alone trying to pass in public as a generally good person.

Guaranteed contracts and/or contract insurance, and better support for post career medical care would be my two big ones. In terms of in game changes, I don't know, but I'd hope the players would.

The funniest thing his parkinsons could do is go away.

and then come back.

and then go away.

and then come back again.
2nd funniest thing.

The funniest thing has already happened, with Sterger implying blurry dick pics.
