I believe he meant it, but I doubt it works out that way with family outside New England and other things he'll be doing.

I feel like he'll spend some of his retirement dry-humping left uprights in the world-class city of Foxborough, MA.

I don’t think his post career options are so obvious to take him well out of the NE orbit. He doesn’t seem inclined to pursue a sports media career, and, while some seem to think he’s good in seconds long bursts on commercial spots, he is not gonna be a legitimate actor. Even if he fully commits to the TB12 wellness mission (whatever one wants to call it), there will be plenty of time to hang around.

I also don’t think he means to say, or anyone thinks he means to say, that he will live in NE or anything.

I take that to mean, and I’ve thought all along, that he’ll likely sign a 1 day contract to retire a Patriot, get his red jacket as a Patriots HOF er, show up for a day at training camp, and watch a game or 2 per season from RKK’s box.
no heavy lifting all.

I thought it was just something nice to say but not sure how literally anyone should take it. Like when you move away and tell all your old neighbors that you’ll still come by to visit all the time or whatever. It makes everyone feel good but nobody really believes it.

Brady angling behind scenes with Kraft to take Belichick’s job?

Read more from ESPN’s Seth Wickersham and investigative reporter Matt Fish in 2022’s most highly anticipated memoir on the most controversial sports franchise ever: “QB Sneak: Is Tom Brady Angling for Bill Belichick’s Job as HC of NEP!?” Available 3 days before or after whichever game is the most highly anticipated on the Patriots 2022 schedule.

I mean he’ll obviously be back for Patriots HOF induction, number retirement, catching a game with Kraft when he’s in town, etc.

I don’t think it’s necessary to read anything more into it like he’s going to move back here or become a part owner or anything.

I mean, maybe, but Kraft is 80. If he wants to spend all this time with his old boss in retirement, he might want to do it soon!

He will make an appearance or two a year or something because it’s nice to be lauded. But how many of these guys actually go to a ton of games after they retire?

He’s clearly trying to continue projecting kumbaya to the Pats fan base, which makes sense/is appropriate.

some more Postgame quotes from Brady

Tom Brady on Bill Belichick "So much is made of our relationship... nothing is ever accurate from what I see... I have a lot of respect for him as a coach."
Tom Brady on his relationship with Bill Belichick: "Nothing is really accurate that I ever see. It definitely doesn't come from my personal feeling or beliefs. I have a lot of respect for him as a coach and all the different people in this organization."

Tom Brady discussed his relationship with Bill Belichick and said there’s a lot of misinformation out there. He said they spoke on the field and in the locker room after the game. MORE:

Tom Brady was asked about this potentially being his finale at Gillette Stadium. He didn’t seem sure it would be.
This honestly seems like more than just lip service from him and kind of puts to bed all the talking heads going on an on about how Tom hates BB and the pats (I’m looking at you ESPN)

To be fair, he doesn’t look a day over 95.
Eh. Brady reminds me of Pedroia or Tek. And by that I mean an athlete who will have a very hard time stepping away from the game entirely when they eventually retire. While I doubt Brady would want to be an “on the field coach” it wouldn’t shock me if he did take some FO/scouting type job or an ownership stake in the pats (or some other team).

He's not going to be the QB coach. He'll show up for special occasions when negotiated with management.

Ownership stake? Sure, maybe if the terms are right.

That other stuff? No fucking way.

IDK, I thought Brady was remarkably earnest in his regard for the Pats.

Is he going to turn into the Johnny Pesky of organization? Of course not. But he is not just a mercenary and that was true all along here in New England and, despite going to TB, seems true still.

Didn't Larry Bird say something similar when he retired, and for a while he was around, and then he wasn't. In terms of his post-career involvement in the NBA he was obviously much more tied to Indiana than Boston, although if memory serves Rick fucking Pitino may have had something to do with that.

It is a nice sentiment, and I'm sure after he retires Brady is going to get an epic send-off at Gillette, but honestly right now he has no idea what his post-playing career is going to be like, even if he thinks he does. And his comments were 100% influenced by nostalgia. But it is nice to know he's not a complete robot and thinks back fondly on his time here.

Why not? I don’t mean like a traveling scout. But one that can help provide input on who should be a good fit for the team?

I wouldn’t be surprised if he and Kraft have had some non-football business plans in the works for post-retirement (maybe TB12 health/wellness stuff).

Unless he plays for another decade and wins another 5 or 6 rings in Tampa, Brady will always be associated with the Pats. And there is little he can do about it, other than to eventually monetize it. So why piss on it now?

Will he live in Melrose or Framingham and head to the Cape for a summer week-end and get stuck in traffic on Rt 6 with G and the kids, probably not, but he will show up from time to time, sit in the Kraft's box, wave to the crowd and smile, and everyone feels good.

Sal Pal reported that BB texted TB after the game that said 'let's talk.' And they talked for 15 minutes. No one is saying what they discussed but that it was personal.

I wouldn't read anything of real substance into it. Brady is the king of saying something that sounds like something, when its really just saying nothing other than just enough to keep people from disliking him.

Brady is old enough to know that there's usually no good to come from burning bridges unnecessarily, or from creating needless distractions. And while there was undoubtedly some professional friction between Belichick and Brady over the 20 years, it was clearly not personal, and everyone involved seems to have moved on. Nothing comparable to the Mangini situation where it's becoming more and more clear every day that Mangini was probably the bigger asshole by far.

I'm expecting there to be some quote from an "anonymous source" in Wickhersham's upcoming book, where the source said he heard someone say that his friend heard Brady say that "he was never going to speak to Belichick or any of those assholes in Foxboro ever again".

In fairness, a huge amount of gasoline was poured on that fire by Brady's father.

What Brady said was the same thing we all say when we leave a job or are leaving family reunion.

Last night’s game felt cathartic for me. I’m not sure why exactly. But after 18 months of angst over Brady having left the Patriots for Tampa, I finally feel ok rooting for him elsewhere. I never rooted against him. But I was on the fence.

No longer.

and then brady told his dad to be quiet (according to his comments on the jim gray segment). it's entirely possible that tommy's dad is just a grumpy old man who exaggerates angry points that involve his kid, and on behalf of his kid. a shame the media just runs with all of this nonsense.

This.

Or when we leave our (insert the.year) high school reunion; "Hey, great to see you whatever your name is again, we'll get together for lunch, been too long, let's both make an effort to see more of each other going forward."...................Yeah, I'm sure Patriots fans will be seeing a lot of Tom Brady once he retires.

TB12 storefront is still in Foxboro as well. Im sure that will get plugged plenty when he "shows up" more often.

A less pessimistic view is that Tom was the honorary co-chair of best buddies in Hyannisport for 16 years. He stepped down after his last season with the Patriots. Maybe he wants to continue to support the local communities.

Bird wanted to stay involved in the game and didn’t want to muddy his legacy in Boston by coaching or working in the front-office here. Iirc, he was open about this.

I expect Brady’s ties to New England after his playing days to be similar to Joe Montana’s ties to San Francisco or Peyton Manning’s ties to Indianapolis, and I think his comments are consistent with that.
