Yea - good for the Bucs. I've always thought Arians is average on his best days. They won despite him in 2020 and a better coach gets them HFA last year.

Hot take alert: Arians will announce his retirement in a few weeks, for family/health reasons, and Leftwich will be elevated to head coach. That was the point of the "retirement"all along, and that's what the Glazers promised him in Manchester over the weekend. They'll reward Bruce handsomely to step aside, and wait a little while to announce, to avoid the appearance of quid pro quo. The 49ers were never in play.
Well that was a great call by @cornwalls@6

I’m excited for Todd Bowles. I’ve been hoping he would get a second chance and I strongly believe he deserves it. That Jets front office was so bad when he was there. Now he gets to coach a team of vets and hopefully make a deep run.

It’d be the ultimate beat you with mine then beat you with yours re the Jets. Right, @luckiestman?

It's more likely that the NFL actually had evidence to support Deflategate than it is that this is unrelated to Brady coming back.

And it's way the hell unlikely the NFL has even a mere scintilla of evidence supporting Delfategate

There’s no way! This was all a power move by Brady. He never had any intention of retiring. This won’t be his last year. I still bet on him going to 50. I still think he ends up in SF before the end of his career.

So we can draw the assumption from this that he hates (hated) his coach?

I'm a little surprised, but not disappointed. It's another year of the GOAT, it's all been gravy for several years no, but here's some more.

I never liked Arians and love Brady so this is fucking awesome from where I sit. What a flex.
I suspect the discussion was pretty simple:

Brady said get a real coach, perhaps much of season and probably firmly at end of year. Tampa said no, Arians is our guy. Brady said ok I'm out. Owner said.....wait a second. Brady said you know what it takes. Owner said we'll do it, but want to leave a few weeks in between for optics. Brady said "I agree and want same"

Even BB says you win because you have good players. Wasn't the rumor that Tom and Leftwich worked on the offense and then Ariens would barge in and try to change things? I am always on the side of labor, good for Tom.

Brady showing power dynamics typically exclusive to top 5 NBA stars and Lionel Messi!

Aaron Rodgers and Brady in the NFL. Mahomes could do what he wants, too, but I would assume he loves Reid.

The funny thing is Tom Brady is turning 45 before the season will start and he's still in control. Really unbelievable.

Seems pretty clear this is what transpired.

It kind of hand waves this part away, which may have been difficult.

After Brady became a minority owner, the Dolphins would have indeed acquired the contractual rights to employ Payton from the Saints. Then, the Dolphins would have at some point gotten the rights from the Buccaneers to bring Brady to the roster.

Yeah, this seems pretty far fetched. I don't doubt Brady had some discussions or became excited about the possibility of playing under Payton, but I don't think these talks ever came close to materializing. Now, if Tua doesn't develop and Brady still wants to play in 2023, I wouldn't put it past him to give it a final go in Miami.

The ownership component makes no sense, but Brady/Payton Dolphins is believable. God, my sports hate for Brady leading a division rival with Tyreek Hill as his primary target would be absolutely enormous. Something to look forward to in 2023 I guess!

And the main development that would bury any chance of that happening (Tua looking really good) would be even worse for the Pats. Hurray.

Is it just me or is this story maybe getting a little less play around here than it should?

The narrative that has emerged: Brady tries to force his way back into the AFC East as a part owner of the Dolphins with Sean Payton as coach -- both were/are under contracts with other teams. It blows up because of the Flores lawsuit so instead he goes back to Tampa and forces the coach out. But wait! He still may leave next year for another team because he's only under contract for one more season.

I know we are in the LeBron era in professional sports after years of being kicked around by billionaire owners where star players have a lot more control and say in where they play and with whom. But this kind of power play seems particularly shitty in a lot of ways -- from forcing his way back into the division to the Rooney Rule violations it would've required to pull off getting Payton. And not something we'd expect from the Tom we knew for 20 years. But maybe we should have? Maybe this is who he is (and maybe always was)?

No one has explained to me how Bruce Arians (being Bruce Arians) would just acquiesce to being kicked up to the Bucs front office if he still intended to remain as HC and Brady forced him out. How does that jive with his personality in the slightest?

Edit: I think what changed is that NE fans were a little too skeptical of media reports regarding Brady when he was with the Patriots and now have flipped the switch to basically take every story on his wants and needs as gospel now that he plays for another team.

Also, putting a possible Rooney Rule violation based on an unconfirmed hypothetical on Brady seems a little extreme to say the least.

Tom is not a particularly socio-politically conscious individual, as evidenced by virtually any and every statement he’s ever made on any topic other than football. I guarantee he is not thinking about anything but getting himself into his preferred life/football situation. Is that bad given the power he wields? Maybe? But, then again, I don’t really hold players responsible for Rooney Rule adherence, so shrug?
