Damn. You go talk a walk and grab dinner and then happens. He loses a lot of credibility in my eye to go away and then come back in a month. Obviously thanks for the 6 rings, but this is weird.
Just pissed he ruined Kraft’s engagement week. I miss Myra too but this is petty.

Yes, she is being the good wife publicly but her real feelings about it could be totally different. I have heard too many stories of people that know her that she wanted him to retire years ago, so I am unconvinced.
And you've made your point 3 times now. Care to try a fourth, just to convince everyone about Giselle's well being?

I'm happy he's back. He's pretty much the only player in the NFL I really follow and his post career endeavors didn't look like they were starting out very well. He stated earlier in his career he wanted to play to 45, and now he's going to do it. He's had a goal, and he's going to accomplish it. Proud of him for doing it

Maybe after this season he can retire and get out of the spotlight for a year or two, before jumping into the next phase of his life, whatever that may be

Brett Favre told the team he wasn't sure if he was going to come back or not. And then kept the team waiting in limbo. 4 years in a row. It's not the same thing.
This is worse

He said he wasn't coming back definitively.

You weren’t excited about Jordan coming back in 95? Come on.
Well I'm not a Bulls fan, but I found it interesting. I didn't get excited, no. There are also some key differences between the situations that I won't get into right now.

I don’t think 2022 is it either. I still think he’s going after Blanda’s age record.

Why is it unequivocally great news for Pats fans? It’s not bad news, and I don’t begrudge him continuing to play at all. But I’ve never understood the idea that somehow we’re almost obligated to keep following him and rooting for him as hard as we did when he was here. I largely stopped caring about what he did on the field as soon as he left, other than hoping he leaves the game, whenever that is, healthy.
This mostly. Tom Brady stopped being relevant to me the moment he stopped potentially adding Super Bowl rings to the Patriots franchise. I dont get why we are supposed to be excited about this or care. Its like if Tony Romo came back to play again, who cares?

Is anyone saying voidfunkt has to be excited?

I'm not fascinated by how big of a story is, but I am fascinated by how the NFL has become a 365 day a year league. Maybe the MLB lockout added some recency bias, but not much. I'm just amazed by how quickly the league went from the Super Bowl to a string of "will he or won't he retire" to the combine to this monster announcement to free agency to the draft to more free agency to the schedule release to training camps and poof back to the season. Even news around broadcasters switching networks is massive. I don't think any other league comes close to this concept of not really having a true off-season. It's amazing and I don't think it was like this even ~5 years ago.

Unlike Tom Brady’s play, this thread is getting worse and worse as it goes on.

I would be extremely fascinated by Romo coming out of retirement, for very different reasons, but for sure it’d be interesting

Who said you had to be anything? There is more projection in this thread than at the local super-luxe movie theater.

This thread is nuts, between people assuming what Gisele thinks, to being pissed off it overlaps with the stupid NCAA stuff, to being upset at him for saying he was retired then changing his mind, to re-litigating whether it is ok to still root for him.

I'm glad he's back, it's good for the game. I love the guy and all that he did for the Pats, and I root for the Brady-led Bucs (except when they played the Pats). That said, I'm more interested in how the Pats are going to shape their roster and how well they do next year.

I fear that this is a troll by Brady for some weird marketing promotion and he retires again on April 1st. APRIL FOOLS!

I think this is probably the sweet spot for breaking this news. Any earlier and he’s stepping on stories about the conference championships, any later and it’s the tournament. I doubt any kid cares that this broke while a bunch of talking heads were squabbling over who was snubbed, who didn’t deserve to be in, who was over/under seeded, and how to set your bracket. It’ll be news for a couple of days where no games are being played and then the dance stories will be the front page.

The real story here is the number of people who don't know what Selection Sunday is.

Also, it's now definitely time for the Falcons to blow it up. [sad face]
I'm still rooting for Matty Ice (if he stays in the NFC and especially if he stays with the Falcons and especially now).

Heck, he was probably driving her crazy being around the house all the time, moping because he is bored and nothing to work towards. She probably begged him to get out of the house!
I did think of this possibility a few minutes ago! Thing is, I hope he doesn't get injured. The man is in great shape, but isn't a spring chicken anymore. Would hate to see him go out that way.

I know there are a fair number of SoSHers who have played or coached a sport (nowhere near at the level of the NFL or with the number of pressures that come with being Brady), and when one has the competitive fire of a Brady or Jordan you don't just turn that off.

This isn't a case of an over-the-hill hack like me trying to lace up the softball cleats for one more season. This is arguably the greatest QB to ever play in the NFL who was a few plays away from another Super Bowl and showed that he's still clearly in the top echelon of NFL QBs.

I know, as a high school coach of 23 years, that after a long season in which I have come up short of my expectations I spend time wondering if it is time to hang them up..and that comes with zero media attention 24/7. Taking a little over a month to realize he still has the fire in him and will be ready for all that comes with being Tom Brady during a season is beyond reasonable.

I say this all as a Steelers fan who loathed when they played against him and who watched Ben hang on a little too long.

I’m just relieved that I don’t have to hold this erection any longer waiting for episode #10 of “The Man in the Arena”. . .

I caught a replay of the 2017 Pats/Steelers game on NFL network last night. I got sad watching Brady and Gronk going crazy together on the last few drives. Sad that I wouldn’t get to see to Tom pick apart a defense again. Now I’m happy I’ll get to see him at least one more time. He was arguably a top 3 QB last season. I think he can do it again. Unless it’s against the Pats, I’ll always root for him.
