Any thoughts on someone using this Mick guy to put pressure on the Red Sox? I mean, people are getting into a frenzy and we don't even know for sure if Henry is even serious about it.

My thought is you should take a step, or several steps, back from the ledge

Honestly, if it was something like a Boras burner account we don't know about, I wouldn't be surprised. Who knows these days.

Why? We had a large family Thanksgiving gathering yesterday, and it was all anyone could talk about. People are taking the bait on it and expect Soto is coming here. It looks like a troll to me, but who knows.

The more I think about it, the more I think the Sox have to do this. This completely turns around the narrative, gets people excited, and makes them not irrelevant. This is the most interested I've been since they're 2021 run.

No way Soto and Boras don’t go back to Cohen to get a higher offer and go back to Boston with said offer. That may have already happened once (the tweets about an upgraded offer in years and dollars) and will likely happen again.
And the Yankees. I assume it's at least a four-way negotiation.

If you believe ownership is going to be influenced to spend $600M to $700M because some internet troll got segments of the fanbase charged up, then I don't know what to tell you

I was at my sister’s house for leftover lunch today. She has a golden retriever, which everyone knows is a very smart (or really dumb) breed of dog. I asked the dog (“Rookie”, so she knows sports) about the signing and she barked quietly at me.

Quietly. Aka “Sotto voce“. Sotto. Which is really close to Soto.

I think we have our answer.

If he was not speaking in hyperbole he should have prefaced his remark with something along the lines of “I’m an idiot”. Can you find me anyone in this thread claiming that the Scottish Trade was about pursuing Soto? Boston itself literally set up their ducks years in advance for the Yamamoto Sweepstakes. Just as the Giants did for Judge. Both teams lost their respective sweepstakes. The Dodgers had arranged their payroll, years in advance, to be ready for the Ohtani sweepstakes. It happens. Deal with it and let Mookie go.
Edited. don’t think anyone wants any more of this back and forth.

The Mick account had about 5,200 followers yesterday. I don't think that is the avenue Boras would take to put pressure on anybody.

He also said that they called an emergency zoom meeting because of his tweet. A bunch of multi-millionaires called an emergency zoom meeting on Thanksgiving because an account with 5k followers made up the same thing people have been making up for weeks, for all teams involved. C'mon.

I believe the ”Scottish trade” refers to the Mookie deal. It’s called the Scottish trade because, like saying “MacBeth” in the theater is bad luck most people in that world refer to it as the “Scottish play”, so is it here to some folks as the trade that should not be said.

I don’t agree with it and think that the FO and ownership should be reminded of it every day as a north star for how they should not run their franchise. But YMMV.

I mean I hated hated hated the trade. You know what I hate more? The way that some people here won't let Mookie go. I loooooved Mookie. He was my favorite player since Yaz. If I can let him go the rest of you can.

Nope misread this one. Pie on my face on this. Sorry, so used to non-tax professionals arguing with me. I misread the 1127 form as saying employees in the city not of the city.
You'll never survive here admitting you were wrong. What're you thinking? Double the fuck down.

Never! I think it would be easier for me to let go if it hadn’t preceded (with one blip season) this slide into irrelevance and despair that has gone on far too long for a franchise of the Red Sox’s caliber. It’s embarrassing, it’s deflating, it’s infuriating, and Mookie is an enduring and painful reminder of this disgusting era we’re still mired in.

I’m hopeful that Father Soto can exorcise the Demon Scottish Trade. At least until the 8/260 deal to Fried goes belly up and we’re treated to the next Dodger Deal.

Mike Rodriguez says yesterday they spoke for an hour. Marino Pepen says today they will speak soon. Are these two separate conversations or the same thing being reported twice? Is Juan asking Raffy where to live in Boston or are they just comparing notes for their fantasy football league?

Or maybe it's just "Raffy come on, that Average Mick sockpuppet was funny the first time but it's getting old..."

Pepen notoriously makes shit up. He isn’t nearly as reliable as Gomez and Rodriguez.

Thanks for this. All the years of a certain game being referred to as the Scottish Game around here, and I never knew why.

I'm looking forward to finding out that all these conversations between Devers and Soto aren't about Soto signing with the Red Sox but about some charity event the two of them are trying to set up in Santo Domingo.
