The most decorated American bobsledder, winning a gold medal in Vancouver in 2010 in 4-man and a bronze in Sochi in 2-man passed away yesterday. He won over 60 world cup medals in his career, was a 5-time world champion (season-long points competition), 10 World championship medals and was looking for more in Pyeonchang next year. Amazingly, he battled a degenerative eye condition and he had 20/500 vision.

No cause of death has been determined yet, but he died in his sleep at the US Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid yesterday.

I didn't know Steve personally, but I have a lot of friends that did. Reading their tributes over the last day has been really touching. None of them really talked about any of the above, but rather what an amazing teammate and friend he was.

This is a huge loss to the sport of bobsled (and skeleton) and sport in general. RIP.
