Glad he'll get a shot, maybe the badness of the White Sox will provide a simulation of AAA where he always did so well.

Five years in the bigs and OPS+ scores of 149, 107, 80, 54, and 16. It's really something.

Wishing him nothing but the best (except against us if he makes it back to the majors)

Worst team in the majors picks up the on of the worst hitters in the majors. You do you Chi Town.
He’s probably gonna OPS 1300 in Camelback

And it’s a minor league contract so no real risk

"The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms with INF Bobby Dalbec on a minor-league contract which includes a non-roster invite to Spring Training."

It wouldn't shock me if Dalbec had a change of scenery and hits 20 home runs in his first 250 plate appearances in his new location.

I figured it would be Japan, not Chicago, but the sentiment still stands.

Huge raw power, he just needs the at bats to run into a few without looking over his shoulder after every strikeout. With the White Sox being the worst team in a long time, maybe Dalbec does something with them that he never could have done here: relax and hit.

Godspeed, we'll always have the summer of '20, Bobby. Even in the summer of '21, when he cooled down, Bobby went 18 games without a homer and then hit 25 in 390 plate appearances the rest of the way. I thought he had turned the corner for good.

(Dalbec was a binky of mine for a long time.)

He's come close before - 17 homers in 255 PA and 72 games from June through September 2021. .287/.353/.596. That stretch would have been the 6th highest OPS among qualified hitters in MLB in 2021.

I don't doubt that a change of scenery MIGHT benefit Dalbec, but IMO looking over his shoulder after every strikeout is just a small part of the issue. He needs a place where he might be able to refine his entire approach at the plate without feeling the pressure to produce right away.
