Just announced on Felger & Mazz. No details, but it apparently happened in the past day or two. He obviously will not be reporting from the Breeder's Cup this weekend.

I go way back with Neumy, to his days as Whalers radio guy (honk if you remember the Westledge Associates Three-Star Postgame Show), to Bob Lobel's "VP" at WBZ, and beyond. And, of course, his coverage of major thoroughbred racing events has always been chock full o'knowledge and passion.

Felger was obviously emotional and on the verge of losing it as he made the announcement, but he held it together.

Hoping for the best.

Bad day in Boston. T&P to Neumy, of the only mainstream sports guys who didn't equate an interest in quantifiable data with living in mom's basement.

Damn.  Agreed that he is a good guy.  My impression is that he is a fan AND a professional...not always an easy combo.

And he's been around forever.  I remember him from my teen years in the Boston area in the 70s...that he was still at it and until now, looking vital and going strong, was remarkable to me.

Here's hoping he enjoys a full recovery.

Damn, Neumeier is probably my favorite of the entire Boston sports media. Hopefully, it was a minor one and he'll heal completely.

OMG. This was on the "B" side of the 45" of Brass Bonanza. I used to play this over and over again when I was 8

Neumy was a great hockey play-by-play guy.  Like Dog said, he was a must-listen on WTIC 1080 for the WHA Whalers and his enthusiasm made enduring a team filled with the likes of Gordie/Doug Roberts, Christer/Thommy Abrahamsson and Alan Hangsleben that much more bearable.

Did you ever notice that Risto Siltanen seemed like he was always one of the Three Stars?  "With one assist and nine shots that went over the net, the number three star: Risto Siltanen!"

I just enjoyed that a lot more than it's politically correct to admit to. Those were the days.

Neumy did a little college hockey coverage back in the early 80s and was always really gracious to the dopey school announcers working those games (like yours truly). I had lots of nice moments with the Globe guys back then, but Neumy was unique among the TV correspondents in being helpful, respectful, and interested. Good guy.

Miss him being on the air regularly.

He was responsible for this:

Indeed he was.

And toward the end of that great evening ("Three on 4"), Neumy is the one who wheeled out the birthday cake for an embarrassed Larry Legend:

Horrible news. Neumy's the best. One of the few guys who I still like even when I disagree vehemently with him. Hope he pulls through.

Great news, I bet someone told him that Angie Harmon and Jason Sehorn are getting a divorce. The way he used to lust after her when he was in WEEI was great. :)

We’re happy to report that former local sportscaster Bob Neumeier is bouncing back from a stroke he suffered last month. Neumie, a former WBZ and WEEI jock talker and national expert on horse racing, is “recovering nicely,” according to pal Harry Manion.

“There’s been an amazing outpouring of support for him and his wife, Michele,” he said. “And his family were awesome.”

Neumeier underwent more than five hours of surgery after suffering the stroke and spent some time in intensive care. He is home now and working on his recovery.

It's only been a little over three months since his stroke and he's already picking winners.

Bob Neumeier, the longtime NBC Sports handicapper and Boston sportscaster, won Saturday's inaugural NTRA NHC Charity Challenge with a final mythical bankroll of $65, besting runner-up Mike Watchmaker of Daily Racing Form, who checked in second with $62.40.

But more importantly, it sounds like Neumy's rehab is coming along just great:

Neumeier suffered a serious stroke just prior to leaving for the Breeders' Cup in October. The damage inflicted required 5 1/2 hours of brain surgery. Since then he has improved steadily while at home in Boston with the help of his wife, Michele Ucci.
"I'm well on my way to recovery and hope to be back to Comcast New England soon and hope to be back behind the mic with NBC Sports soon," Neumeier said. "All of my motor skills and speech work are intact, thank goodness. I've had enormous support from doctors, speech therapists, friends, colleagues, my wife, and everyone."
