By all accounts, Costas is a nice man and his lifetime contributions to sports broadcasting generally, and MLB in particular, is undeniable.

But man, it's time. If his failing to keep up with the play didn't get you, his blatant Yankee homerism would.

Well said. If you want someone to host the Olympics or other similiar duty he's fine but play by play has never been his strong suit.

Didn’t think I’d be sad today

The man looks pretty good for 72

Time catches up with everyone sooner or later. Bob has had an illustrious career, comparable to anyone ever. We ride him hard on The Board, sometimes deservedly so.

Baseball was his thing, and he was great at it. He has witnessed so many incredible moments. Going forward, he'll be great with some pre-recorded sit-down interviews.

It's time to let that part of his career go. I tip my cap to him.

First ballot broadcast HOFer for baseball... but I always get a kick out of his stories from his early days as an announcer for Marvin Barnes and the Spirits of St. Louis...

Other notable "Spirits": ML Carr, Don Chaney, Maurice Lucas, Fly Williams, Mike D'Antoni, and... Moses Malone.

Was never a Costas guy. I guess his prime was mostly before my time, but YED just keeps getting better and better.

I used to love his old radio show which was syndicated on Sunday nights. He had some great interviews. His late night TV show not quite as good but stacks up well against the current shows.
When he came up in the 80's he was the young hipster sports guy who could make cultural references that the old guard couldn't get. But now he's the old out of touch blowhard. Time is rough, man.

Anderson is on his way in. Costas is on his way out, pointing toward the heavens. We can only ask — or wonder — that he is asking some departed relative for forgiveness for this atrocious performance.

His absolute love for the game comes through in ways it does not for other announcers. But play-by-play being the No. 1 requirement of a play-by-play announcer, it did appear his time has come.

I enjoy Costas but I’ve barely heard him do baseball in the last 15 years or so (compared to somebody like Buck). Glad he got to be “the voice” at the highest level for a sport he clearly loves.
