Our blu-ray player bit the dust, although we don't use it a lot, especially since we got a roku stick to replace the internet-ready aspect of it.  I'd love to get out of this for $40-50!

Unless it is a big ticket door buster item and you are willing to fight the great unwashed at midnight on Thanksgiving, you should just wait until closer to Christmas.  Many of the BF deals come up again in December when retailers realize that their inventory isn't moving at Regular prices.

There are refurbs out there for around $25.

Edit: Or this new Panasonic DMP-BDT225 Smart Wi-Fi 3D Blu-Ray Player for $55:

I'm a dweeb when it comes to bargain hunting, but would like to take advantage of either Black Friday or Cyber Monday (both of which I am working on).  I'm in the market for a Chromecast, a Ruko 2 or 3, a surge protector and a universal remote.

Am I going to be able to find a bargain on any of these?  Or should I just buy them now?

Leaving in a bit to the studio :)

I thought it would be a good idea to have a place for any good deals that come up.  I am looking for a 60 inch HDTV this time.
More specific than 60" HDTV, please:  no-name, entry level, mid quality/price, high end, 3d, 4K?

One of the warehouse clubs has a 60" 4K for $999, I forget the brand.  Target ad shows a Samsung for IIRC $749.

We cleaned up last year on Amazon lightning deals:  70" for the LR, 50" for our BR, and 40" for the boys BR (hint:  Amazon lists the deals in advance, and then they pull the item from their site shortly before the Deal goes live).

The key to small ticket items might be cash back from AmEx.  They ran a bunch of "spend $xx at this store, and we'll credit your acct $yy" promos last year, and some were really good, like $25/75 or better.  And many stores will let you pad the total with 3rd party restaurant gift cards.  Along that line, watch for similar coupons from Radio Shack and other niche store:  that's how I picked up three Roke3 last year.

A chromecast costs $35 new.  Not a lot of room for a deal on that one.

http://www.neweggflash.com/ has Roku 3 refurbs quite frequently for around $69

Meritline.com has Harmony 650 refurbs frequently for ~$50 - $60

Depending on your needs, surge protectors can be less than $20 new.

I don't think there is much reason to wait unless you want to stay away from refurbs.

Staples will be offering Amazon Fire TV for $74, others will probably have similar deals. If you can get one that is rootable it's a great choice, not so much for its native apps (which are a bit sparse, though HBO GO should be added later this year) but because of what you can side load onto it, including XBMC...but even if it's not rootable (latest firmware is not, but lots of these devices being shipped don't have the newest firmware yet), you can still load XBMC onto it even without it being rooted, and the hardware on this thing makes XBMC run very smooth.

Of greatest interest:

Asus X205TA-RHATMNO! Atom powered laptop $100

Toshbia C55-B5356 Laptop, i5 cpu (2.7 Ghz), 15.6" screen, 8 Gig ram, 1 Tb 5400 prm HD, DVD burner   $400 also free Kindle eReader
Dell i5447-6520sLV Laptop, 14" touchscreen, similar specs to Toshiba   $550 also free Kindle eReader
Toshiba S55-B5280 Laptop, i7 cpu (2.0 Ghz),  15.6" screen, 12 Gb ram,  1 Tb HD, DVD burner    $580  also free Kindle eReader

(Note the i7 used in this is something of a curious chip, underclocked see the comparison http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-4510U-vs-Intel-Core-i5-4200M to the far more common
i5-4200M, there's no real performance difference between these 2 chips)

Chromecast $25
Roku Streaming Stick HDMI  $40
Apple TV  $79

newegg has refurb roku3 $68 today only.

A few of mine were refurbs and they looked brand spankin new except for the box and a sticker that said Refurb.

Thank you. I bought a used Roku from a member of this board. I'm hoping to grab a chromecast from Staples on the day after thanksgiving. Got a new surge protector for free from the state as part of an energy efficiency audit of my home. Now to find a universal remote. Anyone got any experience with the Harmony remote and toddlers?

I'm in the market for a Universal Remote as well and thus far the best BF deal is the Harmony 700 at Best Buy for $60:
http://blackfriday.bestbuy.com/?category=tv+amp+home+theater6

The Wire Cutter likes it better than the Harmony 650 (though it's generally harder to find), which is normally $75.

If anyone sees a better deal, please post it. I probably could make do with the 650, so if there were a great price on that (apparently some were $40 last year on BF) I'd jump on that.

Not technology related, but Target is having a deal today only on Rachel Ray cookware (and other items).  I assumed that was just junk with her name on it, but the reviews at Target and on Amazon are really very good.  The 14-piece-set I'm likely going to grab to replace an old Caphalon set we have is just $149 today only.  Same set on Amazon is $219.

I prefer my cast iron for a lot of things, but for this price it's likely a good set to have on hand.

30% off any print book on Amazon.com Promo code is HOLIDAY30

Aren't most books on Amazon 30% off or is this an additional 30%?

EDIT: It's an additional 30% according to who else - Amazon.

I just used it to buy a half dozen books and each had 30% taken off

So in one purchase, you got 30% off on each item or did you buy them separately?

No. Nice piece of equipment. Doesn't have the remote with a headphone output, but if that doesn't matter to you, it's fantastic.

Edited to fix poor grammar.
