I don't even like The Big Lebowski much, but it is ridiculous that he hasn't seen it and is proud of that given what he has shaped his job into in recent years.

He makes a lot more references to Teen Wolf and 90120 than Office Space

Minor point, but I didn't like how he included an (admittedly lame) e-mail from a reader, then basically called the guy out for the attempt to be the last one in the column.  He should at least have removed the name and address.  I've found it admirable how he's managed to have so much (sometimes) humorous back-and-forth with his readers over the years without ever resorting to douchebaggery, but that was pretty cold.

No Free Space either.

I'm sure the creator meant to put one but it was a brainfart that he immediately realized after the fact and just hasn't fixed yet (not an actual error).

Heat fans ruined that song. You know it's true. I know it's true. We all know it's true. That's the official theme song of the fan base that bolts for the exits down by five with 28.2 seconds left and the season on the line. A seven-nation army couldn't hold them back … from heading to the parking lot. Sorry, Jack White. You deserved better.
This is pretty funny.

I'm a big fan of Simmons, but the description of his August 27th podcast on the ESPN radio list is pretty amusing: "Bill Simmons calls up his friend Gus Ramsey to talk about Ramsey catching a foul ball."

I was laughing hysterically when Cousin Sal got booted from their fantasy league. it was his idea to institute a rule that the winner gets to throw out one guy at the draft (they have 11 teams). winner decided to put it to a vote and the league voted out sal. lolol

I can't believe it took this long to boot him out. He should have been the first victim.
I actually enjoyed their prop bets podcast, all in good fun.

Did he let Borges ghostwrite a paragraph near the end there in his column today?
What? I thought those few paragraphs were entirely fair and actually pretty dead on. He wasn't criticizing, he openly admitted it they handled it exactly correctly.

I thought the article overall was pretty good and the end was extremely well done.

Ainge podcast is great.  Danny is about as open as you can expect a GM to be.  Really good hour, wish it was longer.

Especially around the Doc coversation.  Ainge didn't really hold anything back.

Just getting to that point in the podcast right now. Great stuff.

I read it as him saying, "yeah, they probably handled it the right way from a logical and team-building standpoint, but morally I still thought they owed us a lot more contrition then they gave us." His willingness to continue that part of the narrative we've heard 100 times this offseason was a little frustrating to me.

I have been a rabid fan of the Washington Professional Football Team since Jack Pardee was the coach, and I've got to say...it's time to change the name.

That was really good, and I though Danny was extremely open and honest for a GM.  I liked the exchange at the end:

Bill:  "Did you move up three spots in the NBA draft because you thought someone else would take Olynyk?"

Danny: "Yes."

Bill:  "Fair enough."

So he just spent a few paragraphs talking up how much he enjoyed a WNBA game with his daughter, and how fun it is to watch Diana Taurasi because she's the best in the world at something. Pretty ironic, coming from a guy who's loved shitting on the WNBA for years (to be fair, who doesn't love shitting on the WNBA), but I guess having a daughter puts things in a different perspective.

Good. I mean, the WNBA is what it is, but Diana Taurasi's been this good for years. I'm surprised that with having a daughter, he didn't get swayed earlier.

Don't forget this is Bill Simmons you're talking about. The Wire was only the greatest show ever after he watched it 5 years after it ended. Breaking Bad is the best show on TV now because he started watching it this summer. Every cultural event only happens through when he "discovers" it.

One of my biggest gripes with Bill Simmons was in this Week 3 picks article:

Rams (+4) over SAME OLD COWBOYS
Your official "The NFC West Is A Juggernaut And The NFC East Is A Doormat" game. If you add up the rankings for every Week 3 team from my Half-Assed Power Poll and separate them by divisions, the lower the number, the better that division is overall, right? Example: Seattle (1) + San Francisco (3) + Arizona (19) + St. Louis (20) = 43, our lowest number for the eight divisions. Who has the highest number? Well …
NFC West: 43
NFC North: 53
AFC West: 57
NFC South: 66
AFC East: 67
AFC South: 72
AFC North: 84
NFC East: 86
Translation: The NFC East blows.

Simmons pioneered this behavior.  Make an authoritative claim, then act as if it's gospel that came from somewhere else in the next sentence.  "I'm setting the over/under of 'XYZ' at 8.5, and I'm taking the over."  It may, at one point, have been a joke structure for him; I was never clear on that.

The Robert Smigel podcast was goddam phenomenal. Rob's had a great career and spun some gems. The Bill Murray quip was epic- 'Dan's (Aykroyd) right, we don't do it to make money. We do it to make money for Lorne.'

I was surprised to hear Smigel sound so......desperate?  Kept joking about never being able to get a job again when they would talk about his work on SNL from the 80's, made more then a few comments about money, and at the end, came right out and said "I just need the money!"  I would assume and hope he's doing alright, it just struck me as odd.

The guy has an amazing track record, and has been a part of some outstanding comedy over the last 30 years.  I could listen to him tell stories all day.

Not a huge fan of Bill but this Twitter line of his made me chuckle:

@BillSimmons

I'm tired of the Rays buying their way into the playoffs.

This doesn't really have anything to do with Bill Simmons ... but every time they run the stamps.com add on his podcast and make a big deal out of "they even give you a scale!" I wonder if they're targeted penny ante drug dealers.

I watched half of the Kings video and all of the Celtics video.  I can't get over how good they are.  If they did packages like this for each NBA game on ESPN in lieu of the usual pre-game claptrap, I'd tune in early to watch.

There's a term for that. It's called an "Eric Van."
