I’m elated. There are still so many questions about next years team but this news makes me realize how unprepared I was mentally for the post Bergeron era.

It's got to be at least 6M right?
Cash wise, surely.

Cap wise, maybe not.

On a one year deal, he's eligible to sign a deal like Iginla did here, where he got 6M, but a cap hit of 1.8M because of easy peasy 4.2M worth of incentives.

I'd bet Bergeron signs that kind of deal.

I think the best comparision is Chara. When he went year-to-year, his first contract (at age 41) was 1-year $6.75 million AAV. It had $5 milion in base salary and $1.75 in easily attainable performance bonuses.

They can play around with the performance bonuses to keep the cap hit down for this season, but that bill does come due the next season, at which point they are hopefully trying to squeeze in a Pastrnak extension.

I know for a fact Joe had a very good relationship with Bergy. I trust that if he is reporting that, he heard it direct from the source.
I trust Joe, but there was a lot of local "Krejci's coming back" talk last offseason that obviously never materialized.

The B's appear to have at least confirmed there is a meeting next week, so I do think Joe is right, but I'll feel more comfortable when there's an official announcement.

Like anything it's not a done deal until the ink is on paper. Bergy may have indicated he plans to come back. Sweeney could cry cap trouble and offer him under $2M due to cap issues. I doubt Bergy wouldn't take a hometown discount, but having a price goes two ways. They may not offer him enough to put his body on the line.
