He is going to receive quite the reception from the NYC crowd. I am trying to get tickets on Ebay or StubHub, but can't find any.

There must be very few sports figures with as complicated a legacy in New York as Belichick. An integral part of the Giants' Superbowl wins in the '86 and '90 seasons, but more recently owned by the Giants in the Super Bowl. Almost became coach of the Jets, to the destroyer of Jets fans' hopes and dreams for about 15 years running now. I could see boos, heckling, cheers.

Much of the Letterman audience will be tourists, though.

They don't sell tickets(not sure if reselling is even possible) you sign up. I have never gone to Letterman, but I believe his tickets are pretty easy to come by. A few months ago a friend was walking by his studio and they were just handing out tickets on the street.

Using those ESPN's SportsNation polls as a representative pulse of the sports fan, IIRC, about 2/3 of 1.2 million respondents believe Pats "cheated", so tourists + NYC residents may not be the most welcoming audience for BB.

Request made, thanks! I wasn't sure if people resold these things or not, I've never been to a late night show. I wanted to attend Conan, but he moved out to LA right as I got here.

I am far from an authority -- don't they, at least on occasion, give out more tickets than seats?  Because they want a full house?

I think that is a portion of the crowds that gather early -- they want to make sure their ticket translates into a seat.

Given BB's apparent distain for the media, he must have lost a bet for this to happen.

This will be his 2nd time on Letterman; the first appearance was in February 2004 after SB XXXVIII.  I can't find a clip of that appearance, but I remember him being quite relaxed and being a good interview with Dave.  Here's Brady on with Letterman a year later talking about Belichick:

BB was on Letterman after Super Bowl XXXVIII. I remember Dave asked him about the Janet Jackson incident and he said "we weren't kept abreast of that situation." Letterman gave him a smirky half laugh that said "you let me tell the jokes, pal."

I'm not sure if you're joking, but you know BB is actually an amazing interview, right?

He won't speak about anything he doesn't want to speak about (injuries, gossip, off-field drama) but he is often hilarious and insightful in relaxed interviews like the one with Letterman.

Check this out, an interview with Inside the NFL with his good friend Charles Barkley as a guest:

Edit: note his answer ~3 mins in when Collinsworth asks him where he would play Barkley. Belichick answers that question way too quickly and with so much detail -- it's 100% clear this is not the first time he's thinking about it.

They hooked you up that quickly? I might have to go before he retires.
Best bet is to go to the ticket office. Got the call like an hour later.

A female page, who I can only describe as a female...well, you know, just told us not to cheer too loudly. Fucking Letterman. Also, a few "Twelfth Men" here. Awkward. Also next to a couple Colts fans.

I will spoiler for now:

Just got out. Letterman called Delflategate "kerfluffle" to suck up before he was on. Then Letterman asked about the Pats beating his Colts, to which BB said "we only beat them by 38." He clearly hates them.

Letterman asked some standard stuff, then criticized Carroll. BB came to Carroll's defense similar to WEEI interview. Letterman joked about ballboy taking 90 seconds to pee and asked if there was some horseplay. BB got serious and said absolutely not. Letterman clarified that he heard 10 balls were barely under and that one was 2PSI under and said "I heard that the Colts guy intercepted the ball and handed it to a guy who let some air out. Tell me, is that what happened?" BB took a deep breath and kind of held his breath, at which point the audience laughed and Pats fans cheered. Bill said Letterman should testify for Wells. Man, BB hates the Colts and my impression is he may think they fucked with a ball. Around that time I professed my love for bill and got a stern tapping on the shoulder by a page. There was more to the interview and then Letterman pulled the Lombardi out from behind his desk and BB walked off with it.

After the show, the guy in charge of the main lighting came up to me, said "I know you're a big Boston fan," and gave me a copy of the script, which was awesome.

Did the page have a Letterman song to entertain you?

I thought this was about Belichick.  Who's that guy talking to Letterman in that pic?
The other night, Shane Vereen was on the NFL network along with Blount.  (Browner is on tonight and Malcolm Butler will be on tomorrow).  (wait, Brandon LaFell was in there somewhere, too)  At the end of Vereen and Blount's appearance they teamed up Blount with Heath Evans and Vereen with Willie McGinest for a little quiz show contest.

They showed each pair of guys a clip of Belichick speaking after a game and they had to identify whether he was speaking after a win or a loss.  They gave them a total of 5 short clips of him speaking in post game press conferences and I think they missed on 3 out of 5.  After one clip where Bill seemed like a walking ad for clinical depression and somebody would have to take his belt and shoelaces away, they noted that it was actually after a win of 31-7 or something like that over the Vikings.  They all got big laughs out of it.

I loved how resolute he was about the 2nd and goal play: brushed aside any suggestion that it was a bad call by Carroll, made nary a mention of the NE coaching that went into it, and simply gave all the credit to Butler.

I could see all of the above delivered in such a way that it would just come off as just "what you're supposed to say", but it didn't come off that way at all. It felt genuine and heartfelt.

it's pretty funny.
The players doing the rounds on TV all come off really likable .

Bizarre take.

Bill was laughing, high fiving Paul, giving it back to Dave a little about leaving the Colts game conversation given the outcome, miming about suggestions he gets...I thought he looked like he was having a great time.

That's just how he looks.

He did go all Bill KGB at a few points but he wasn't going to reveal anything to David Letterman, especially about BullshitGate.

The NFL sees it differently.  Whether it made a difference or not, proof that anyone from the Patriots tampered with the footballs could result in significant punishment.  Letterman’s failure to understand that, or his conscious decision to disregard it, squandered a prime opportunity to get something fresh, tangible, and/or informative out of Belichick.

That paragraph from Florio is Exhibit A on just how delusional certain members of the media are, and how intense their obvious hatred of all things Patriots is.

The notion that David Letterman would attempt to get BB to reveal anything as if Dave was an investigative reporter is topped on the silliness scale only by the suggestion that Bill would pick that interview as the time to contradict himself or otherwise cleanse his soul with a confession.

What a clown Florio is.

There is no way Florio is a real person.  He just has to be some NFL league office trollbot.
I must be on his blacklist, he deletes all of my comments within 5 minutes, even the ones not critical of him. Gotta be a robot.

Reporters don't do their jobs anymore, they expect the comedians to do it for them.

BB looked great last night.  It's not often we get to see him relaxed and in a friendly regular guy mode. I love the post SB stretch almost as much as the actual game wins, including the media and Boston sports radio call euphoria, parade, late night interviews like last night, and even the draft which for some reason seems more enjoyable than usual.  And BB seems to enjoy Letterman's sense of humor. In 2004, I remember him breaking up when out of nowwhere, Colts fan Letterman asked him who is the better QB is NFL history - Bert Jones or Brady

Great interview - I love that we got to see flashes of Bill's deadpan sense of humor that only his closest friends supposedly get to see.

Someone needs to make a gif of BB balling up and throwing away the suggestion - that could have a long, long life on this board.

This was quite literally a fresh angle on Bill Belichick. Never mind the suit and tie: we NEVER see him reclining, head tilted back.

I almost wanted him to sit up and lean his torso forward, elbows on knees, so I wouldn't feel so disoriented.

Two things I read way too much into:

1. He wants to destroy the Colts to the point where they are no longer a viable NFL franchise.

2. He is looking forward to the investigation because he knows it will exonerate him/Tom Brady/the team and ultimately make the Colts look like babies.
