How do you all feel about neck guards for beer league? I have never tried one, so I don't know how restrictive to movement it would be. Given that some pro leagues are now mandating it, I wonder if USA hockey will also force this on the beer leagues.
As a goalie I have always worn both the plastic guard that everyone wears but also one around my neck. Even with mine being more aggressive than what a normal skater would wear, I don't notice it at all. Hell even the shirt I wear under my pads has a little neck padding. If I ever started skating out again I would buy one. I could definitely see USA hockey adopting it, you get covered on the ice for a low price, doesn't seem like a big ask

I probably should wear one but I don't even wear shoulders so probably not going to add a neck guard anytime soon.
I have always wanted to try without shoulder pads but then just the other night while i was clearing out the puck a guy quite literally skated right into me. I think he was a former roller player and just didnt really know how to stop. Without those pads I suspect that would have really hurt!

I'm eventually going to get a puck to the ribs in front of the net that will be painful but that's a future me problem.
I wear them more for the breast plate than the actual should pads. Took a puck off the sternum once which was scary enough with shoulder pads that I won’t play without them.

IRT neck guards my son is 22, but never game up his neck guard. Still wears it in pickup games. He will certainly never give it up now.

I wore it the last few times out but messed my back up doing something else, so I've been on the shelf. Skating again next Thursday for the first time in a while. I'm not at all worried about it impacting my performance. I have the skate armor one. Not restrictive at all. Feels like a turtleneck at worse, at best I don't notice it.

Anyone skate enough to want a sparx?
Our org is raffling one and there are very few (single digit) tickets sold. So, as of now, you have a great chance to win!

Wow.

Season over again.

A beer league team that stays together year to year is a strange thing to be a part of. I mean, these guys.

My team is just such a flawed mess -- mostly too good to ever get a good draft pick, but saddled with some guys who suck and who also don't show up to very many regular season games, but this year got all, "yeah! Let's go!" in the playoffs (leaving our better players on the bench for 3/4 of the game when it actually mattered).

And it is probably going to be the same next year.

I have one captain who makes it very clear at the start of the season that the playoffs are not included in the team fee and as such for the playoffs he sets the roster however he wants. It causes a bit of a ruckus as people (sometimes rightfully so) get butthurt over not playing in the playoffs.

As as for how well that works: Like clockwork we lose to a team that has 3 or so ringers :)
