"Jack Morris, on phone just now, on 29th anniversary of his Game 7: “Blake Snell was throwing better tonight than anyone I’ve ever seen in the World Series. These analytics guys we have now think numbers are more important than having an ace at his best on the hill.” ... "

"Me: Thank you, Hall of Famer. Jack: “No problem. You’re about the sixth reporter in 5 minutes to call me, starting when Cash jumped out of the dugout. “We keep seeing it. but taking out a guy who already had struck out Mookie twice ... this was unbelievable for me.”

I think Cash has built up enough good will among the players for this not to impact the clubhouse going forward. The players have bought into his system and know the deal when it comes to how decisions are made.

With the possible exception of Snell who seemed pretty peeved when he was pulled.

The players aren't dumb. They know they're playing for an organization that isn't a World Series contender every year. There's a lot of guys on that team who (rightly) think this might be their only chance. Not to mention they've basically burned the manager-player relationship with their ace.

Cash earned his pay in that interview. He knows he has to take all the blame. This is the essence of his almost unique job.

We’ll always have game 4
This series is another building block for the Rays. They won three playoff series to get here. Players got postseason experience. Snell looked like an ace when it mattered. Probably the only negative is the offense. Franco replacing Adames in 2021 will be a big plus.
Tampa is the team to beat in the AL East until further notice. No more underdog horseshit, VORP. Everyone will be gunning for the Rays next year.

Pretty much this. Wander and Arozarena are going to be beastly for years to come.

given how this series went they should have went Franco. fuck it, couldn't have been worse than Adames or Brosseau.

Yankees have already been installed as favorites. They have stars. Rays will have an uphill climb, as always. Such is the life of a minnow.

Also Lowe and Meadows have both had lengthy team-carrying Arozarena-esque offensive stretches since the start of 2019.

They need Morton to come back but it sounds like he will, they need to be a little careful not to let their normal offseason roster churn affect their chemistry but they rotate through so many guys that maybe it doesn’t matter.

I liked this quote from Marc Carig of the Athletic on the move.

There is an arrogance about the way old school baseball people talk about how the old ways are better. In an Orwellian twist, that same arrogance is now present among those who treat the conclusions drawn from numbers as absolutes. This is the game’s new ruling class.

I find it mildly humorous thinking back now on @KenTremendous and the Fremulon crew writing versions of “the stat nerds don’t think that we should only use numbers to make decisions”.

Gambling lines are established to draw the most bets. So they make the Yanks favorites. Same thing happened in the LDS. Yanks were favored over the Rays.
In terms of on the field, we’re a long way until April but the Rays have holes to fill just like everyone else, and Arozarena will not hit like Superman for a full season. When the Dodgers made their pitches, they got him out.
