BC lands #57 on the 2019 Rivals recruiting list, behind non-P5 schools like USF and Memphis, with only one 4* (zero 5* of course) recruit. Isn't this Daz's strength?

https://n.rivals.com/team_rankings/2019/all-teams/football
You put much stock in those rankings? Last year BC was 71, and the year before that 66, and the year before that 83, so even if you do think these rankings mean anything this is BC's best recruiting class in years.

The question, as always, is whether Daz can turn talent into results on the field - so far the results have not been particularly inspiring.

There's room for nuance. Unless you think all the recruiting sites are able to appropriately watch and determine that the LG from Lawrence Academy is a 3 star when he was a 2 star all year and the only thing that changed was Ohio State offered.

They are ranked #12 in ACC ahead of the Cuse and Louisville. Who knows? As stated the question is whether they can coach them up. Individually they can do it. But as a team, the results of this process over the years appears to be as discussed above....mixed. #Forever500.

Unless you think any correlation less than 1 is worthless, I’m not sure what your point is. The earlier poster asked whether the OP put stock in recruiting rankings, and all reasearch I’ve seen finds they are a good, not perfect, predictor of on-field success. There certainly is variance, and there can be outliers, particularly when they involve elite coaching.

BC’s S&P+ Ranking is #71, pretty much in line with its recent recruiting classes, so the available evidence doesn’t exactly suggest it’s one of those outliers.

We’re on the same page. They’re not an end all, be all that some claim. Especially given how much of it is somewhat volume dependent for the BC’s of the world.

Wow, the players, the coaches, TV crew, and probably 5 or 6 fans traveled to this game and missed Christmas at home. And then they cancel rather than delay or reschedule because if a tree falls in the forest and it doesn’t work for espn any more, it didn’t really happen.

And how many have been rescheduled? They’re also usually in nice areas so this usually doesn’t come up. I don’t see any reason this needs to be rescheduled.

If you were a player/coach/someone who traveled there/bought tickets... you’d feel differently.

Okay, so, lemme get this straight:

-First Responder’s Bowl.
-Servpro, the sponsor, helps restore communities in times of diaster.

Such a Bowl has been cancelled due to natural weather causes. Life is truly stranger than fiction, no?

Can I ask a serious question? Would this have happened if we had a more experienced AD? First we have the A&M fiasco. Now the bowl game gets cancelled. It seems that when something comes up and there is a little controversy, or arguably an out for an event to take place, that the matter goes sideways.

IDK, I just find all this a little coincidental that weather issues, both in Texas, have resulted in BC having games cancelled on them in their major revenue sports, rather than just moving the games back a few hours in both instances. I just don’t see this happening to other schools. This coupled with no plan relative to Addazio, and we end up with an extension rather than a change in coaching makes me wonder what is going on over at Chestnut Hill. Not a good look.....again.

So does BC get credited with the win? How long must a game be played before it is "official"? Will Vegas honor any bets? Would BC get the winners share of the purse? It just seems fitting that this happens to BC of all teams.

No idea what MJ’s role was but we’re clearly small time

I think that is unfair, but at the same time MJ did campaign and even threaten not to go if they had been select to play in Michigan, which is where they deserved to go. Instead he sold out t get this turn of a bowl, because it was in a warm weather climate.

Just seems fitting

In Las Vegas, games have to last 55 minutes to be official, regardless of what the leagues decide. Therefore all bets were refunded much like the 50-minute win against Howard, which did count for standings.

From what I saw on the forecasts, it's hour after hour of thunderstorms; so, not playing the game at all today is probably the only possible decision.
Why it couldn't be played tomorrow is another matter, given that ESPN has a gazillion channels to put it on and they could probably let any and everyone who wants to go in for free. Only thing they are possibly out for is another night of hotel rooms.
Someone mentioned the other day 16,000 came from Boston to the 1985 Cotton Bowl. Wonder if the non-band, non-family supporters today were closer to 160 or 1600?

BC’s Toilet Bowl canceled due to lightning. I blame Daz.
Sorry guys, this is all my fault, blame me. Didn't want to be in downtown Fort Lauderdale at night, but wanted to see Hamilton again, plus there were very few options to watch the game with sound anywhere, so tried to get a good deal on a matinee Hamilton ticket. Was too successful. Avoided social media to see a highlight show on YouTube or whatever. Sat down now to see it hopefully and found out.

I chose to go to PC over BC for college, mostly because BC was just too close to home. The only thing that I ever regretted about that decision was that I didn't get to watch "major college football" during my college years.

I don't mean to offend any of you BC folks, and in fact, I generally root for BC in football, but right now, about the only thing I can muster is HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...After deciding to keep Daz on for more, I feel like this is probably the most perfect end to this season. What a freaking trainwreck they have going on over there right now. Can you imagine a legit 4 star recruit looking at BC and having the option of going to just about any other ACC school, and seeing this? My God. If the decision to keep Daz around was really for recruiting reasons (which I find laughable as well), this just flies in the face of that. I just don't get it. If the Cotton Bowl was too booked up that they couldn't find a way to reschedule it there, there are friggin high school stadiums all over the place down there that would have been large enough to hold the 56 or so people that actually went to the game. Shit, might have been more enjoyable than watching the teams play in front of 90% empty seats.

I think you have a weird definition of a “train wreck”. BC has had 14 players drafted by NFL teams over the last 5 years. They will have a handful more this year, including an expected 1st round pick in Zach Allen and projected 2/3 round pick in Chris Lindstrom. We ain’t Clemson but we do have some decent talent. And the weather probably prevented Boise State, a ranked team, from taking another bowl game L from BC.

I can’t stand Daz but I also don’t think his extension means much. Another mediocre season next year and he is almost surely a goner.

It’s literally a risk with every sporting event you go to. Especially so for meaningless bowl games.
it's such a risk that it's never happened before in a "meaningless bowl game" and there's pretty much no risk of any other sporting event being canceled and not made up without refunds

Literally lol boo hoo. Sorry there were 12 hours worth of thunderstorms in the area. Also sorry if you got a ticket to any of the games that got cancelled due to the hurricane earlier this year. That sucks. I still don’t understand why this reflects poorly on BC outside of people using this as a jumping off point for larger issues they have.

Edit: This isn’t an ESPN issue. It’s a logistical issue of having the proper personnel in place to have 15K or whatever people in a stadium for an athletic event in less than 24 hours notice.

When has a bowl game been in danger with 12 hours worth of thunderstorms?

I thought BC promised all their ticket holders a refund plus tickets to any other BC sporting event until next December?
Why would this reflect poorly on BC? BC could not control the weather.. As for DOTB comment that they could just play today in a high school stadium, you cannot just schedule a game with less than 24 hours notice. Security, first responders (haha) concession workers etc...

Bernie, I don't think we can throw this shit show on Jarmond, we were in Detroit 2 years ago and I'm sure most of the players had no desire to return there, espically after many of them had made a 2nd trip to the NYC Toliet Bowl last year. all I know is on my one trip to Dallas, for the 1985 Cotton Bowl it was fucking freezing

as I sat in Jake n Joe's with my tailgate crew watching the game yesterday and saw them going off the field I checked weather channel radar for Dallas and there was a giant mass of Yellow covering the city, and as anyone who checks their phone's radar on the golf course knows, yellow means get the fuck off the course, so foro saftey's sake the right call was made

I was texting with a media member who was concerned about getting out of there last night, looks like the charter spent a couple hours on the ground waiting to take off, and there were a couple interesting twitta posts, Dillon was all class thanking the seniors and teammates, this kid gets it! Connor Strahan had an intersting post comparing Boise to Mass Aggie.. that will be tacked up on a locker room if we ever play them again

we're on to the Spring Game

Martin jarmond should be directly asked why Syracuse has passed us. The answer is very simple. Steve addazio.

This.

I found it interesting that in the presser before the Cuse game, Daz was asked about recruiting battles with Syracuse. He answers by saying that BC and Syracuse don’t really recruit in the same areas anymore and that although occasionally they go after the same kid, it’s not as much as one might think. He then went on to say BC recruits Nee England, the Tri State, NJ, eastern PA and MD/DC areas geographically (all leagues) and Florida as well as Midwest Catholic leagues. They also get tape on catholic schools across the country and will recruit if there appears to be a fit or connection of some type.

Not sure exactly where Syracuse recruits if the above areas do not have BC/Syr staffers crossing paths.

Anyway, it’s fime put this season in the memory file. Not sure what 2019 has in store but it looks like the schedule is a bit tougher with ND replacing Purdue, Pitt replacing the U, along with Kansas and Rutgers replacing Temple and UMass. If it’s another 7-5 and trip to Shreveport, I think we will be talking about a new coach this time next year.

Have a good winter break fellas. See you all next season.

Unless it's moving to some other (SMU's pretty nice stadium comes to mind) venue, looks like the First Responder Bowl is dun before it ever started...next year's Winter Classic is at the Cotton Bowl Stadium.

And the Dead Daz walking (could be Name for the 2019 season thread) continues

Anthony Campanile, Co-DC, DB coach and recruiting pipeline into NJ going to Michigan

This is a huge fucking loss Camp was far and away our best recruiter so on Jan 12 we sit without a OC, a DB coach, a recruiting coordinator and with a new strength/conditioning coach.

I don’t think it’s guys abandoning ship, I think it’s more better offers, I mean come on which psycho do you think is better to work for Harbaugh or Dazzler???

ATL had an interesting thought that if Camp takes some of Donny Brown’s responsibility’s at UM, this could position him better when the BC job opens up, hopefully next year

Saturday opening game against an ACC opponent over Labor Day weekend suuuuuuucks. Could be 6-0 heading into NC State. But I imagine we'll blow one of the Wake or VTech games because Daz.
