I was away this weekend, but how in the hell was BC a seven point favorite in this game? I know Syracuse got spanked last week, but that was by a very strong ND team, while the Eagles blew that game against a bad FSU team.

Yesterday AM I told my wife BC was going to lose by 17. Did anyone think otherwise?

being the glutton for punishment that I am, I rewatched the game yesterday morning because I needed to see what happened on the bomb to go up 14-7 (Tores bit on outside reciever letting his man in slot run free for 70 yds) and see how Allen gt hurt, an AJ like high ankle sprain I'd guess. other then that Cuse did to us what we shouldve done to FSU last week.. take a beating the week before as motivation and kick the shit out of the next opponent. after our first two drives they controled both sides of the ball

i know there is a lot of buzz in social media land about Dazz getting whacked, while nobody wants him shitcaned more then I do, I can't see Leahy paying Daz $2.5 to sit on his fat french fry eating ass for 2 years while paying someone else at least the same to coach the team... and who would we get anyway. Ryan Day isn't walking thru that door, he'll have much better choices.
he has 2 more years on his contract, play for the extension Next year, then whack him and go get a young alum with co-ordinator experience

Brian Flores... come on down

Brian Flores isn't leaving an NFL defensive coordinator job with the Patriots to take the head job at BC...he's rumored to have a shot at NFL head jobs sooner rather than later, no chance he's heading back to a stepping stone college program, even if he went there.

Sounds like the moron may even get a 3 year extension; although, supposedly with a low buyout. Un bleeping believable. This moron must have made a faustian bargain at some point. To go from a 4 win year at Temple and get a 6X raise to go to BC. Now after 6 mediocre seasons feasting on FCS, and low majors, and struggling badly against P5 schools he gets to keep his job and maybe an extension?

That’s really best case if they don’t fire him. He was going to get extended for recruiting purposes. Just minimize the pain for when we finally pull the band aid off.

He was given a 1 year extension with a buyout after next season. He is coaching for his job at this point. I’m thinking Jarmond told him he needs 8 wins in the regular season next year or he gets a $2.5M kiss at the end of the year.

Sounds about right. Basically he can go out and recruit this year with 3 years on a deal. If he wins 7 or less next year he’s gone and it costs the school $2.5M only. He can’t recruit without at least 3 years on a deal. If they aren’t going to fire him now, they had to extend him.

I want to throw up. Pull the band-aid now. He can't recruit if parents think he'll be fired in a year anyway.

Next year's schedule
Home
Richmond-W
Kansas-W, probably
Wake-W
FSU-?
VT-?
NC State-?

Road
SBCC-L
Clemson-HAHAHAHA L
Syracuse-L probably
Louisville-W probably
Pitt-?
Rutgers-W probably

So you have 5 likely wins, 2 definite losses.
Going to have to go 3-2 with FSU, VT, NCST, PItt, Syracuse. I doubt he can do it. He's never going to go 2-0 against FSU and VT. They literally had their worst seasons in 25 yars, at the same time, and still couldn't, with 4 1st team ALL-ACC guys plus Allen.
Not the Umass/HC schedule as this year. Richmond and Kansas are better cupcakes..

Kansas hasn't won more than 3 games since 2009 and Richmond is an FCS team that is 4-7, in line with other powerhouses like URI and New Hampshire. They're cupcakes.

If anyone can lose to Kansas, it's Steve Addazio. People are underestimating just how bad this team is going to be next year. We are losing 10 of our 13 all-ACC guys and our QB is still going to be awful. They should have just canned Daz. It's going to be the same or worse next year, likely worse.

BC will forever be a joke.

Scott Loeffler gone. He has taken a head coaching job at Bowling Green. Good for him. I think he is pretty mediocre, but while I think Dumbass Daz interfered in the offense, I do think Loeffler got far more autonomy than other OC have had under Daz, and I certainly expect Daz will be more involved next year, so that is all bad

Rumors seem to indicate Jim Reid will choose to retire So it could be a big shakeup on both sides.

I love the fact that they are hyping it up as a rematch of the 2005 MPC computer bowl game

So BC passed all the way through the bottom of the ACC bowls to the also ran someone will fill level. Boise is a nice opponent.

It's fuinny this is a mediocre BSU team by their standards. Yet this would be pretty easily the second best win of the Daz era if BC were able to pull a victory out

Living in FW, I will be there (wife allowing)

Trying to get pops to hand over the BC cowboy hat he wore in 85

Having been to the Cotton Bowl and Cowboy Stadium, I would choose the Cotton Bowl any day

It could have been worse. It also could have been better, a lot better. But they are playing a legit team and if they beat Fresno and UCF lost, they would have been in a NY6 bowl. Which means they should beat BC by 10 points.

I truly truly hate to say this but playing Boise in the Cotton Bowl stadium while big brother SBCC plays Clemson in the Cotton Bowl game at Jerry’s World 3 days later shows just how far they have to go to be a legit team in college football. We are miles and miles away from anything relevant.

Well, we held Clemson to 20 offensive points. We’ll see what big brother does.

But, yes, BC is so far from relevance. Came damn close a decade ago and I doubt we’ll ever get back there.

Do it Martin. Invite your friends Urban and Shelley to MA. Have them fall in love with our great hospitals and nursing programs. Urban can work in Bristol for 25-30 days total next year, Shelley will have no problems landing a job here, and then Urban can start a legacy at Chestnut Hill after you can Daz.

BC with a 3 point betting line. Is it just me or does this seem to be way off? Or is there a key injury on Boise State that I am not aware of, like in the Syracuse game?

Based on my limited knowledge, I'd expect to see Boise St. favored by 10 points. At least.

Dillon getting 5 weeks off between games might carry the day for BC. I'd like to hear the staunchest Addazio defender try and justify him being run into the ground vs Florida State.

Looking back, if he were eligible for the draft this year after the first injury he would have been more than justified shutting it down. Wonder if he'll ever be the same again.

I wonder if this was tied to Liam Coen coming on board as OC? If so, that's out the window, as Coen is apparently staying in LA.

https://www.bcinterruption.com/2018/12/5/18128318/report-la-rams-assistant-liam-coen-will-not-become-next-bc-oc

This is really too bad-only 32 years old, with some pro experience and MA ties...exactly what some of us would like to see the next head coach look like.

Honestly, at this point, with Daz in a rather precarious situation himself, who would want to come on board knowing that if they win 7 or less games next year, Daz is out and the new coaches will be moving again. You will either see a retired old retread coming in or there will be an internal promotion. This is not a great job, at this point, for an assistant coming in off the street.

IMHO Jarmond has lost a little luster in the way this was handled. Daz has hit his ceiling and the team, on the field , has plateaued. He should have been ready to make the move on a new coach. But he was not and instead extends him so that he can recruit this cycle. But really he is kicking the can down the road as we will be in the same position next year....2 years left on a contract, another meh season, inability to attract any good assistants and the "extension talk" will be back. Maybe he (Jarmond) has his eye on someone who isn't available right now, but it seems more like a lack of planning rather than a strategic plan.

If I were Coen I only would have considered the job, if BC made a substantial financial commitment, AND I had pretty strong feeling from Jarmond that I was coming in as HC in waiting.

I do agree is it a pretty lousy job given everything, but then again, for a lot of younger potential coordinator types I could see wanting to move forward and jump in. It is a very incestuous group (college football coaches), so getting your foot in the door is very key

Look at Ryan Day, he had a pretty long career of largely mediocre results, was fired 2 straight years in the NFL, and now 2 years later is the Head coach at tOSU

He didn't get the go-ahead to eat 5.5M. Guaranteed this one has an easier buyout. It's a paper extension. Daz is coaching his walk year.

Hope you're right, but it still puts them in the same place that they were before, a coach who has no long term stability, impacts recruiting, and the inability to secure a top OC candidate. Don;t see the reasoning for this. He should have either pulled the trigger on him after the Cuse game or issued the press release they did today on the Monday after the game and guaranteed the extension. This is not helpful, unless I am missing something.

That’s what this is all about, having Dazaini being able to go into a kids home and say he will be here till’22. I couldn’t see that sports hating Leahy (no not Frank Leahy) oking another multi million dollar payout.

This also give us the opportunity to find another up and rising OC and keep younger assistants like Campanile around

But the fucking guy drives me mental

What's your guess on how much he'd get if they let him go after 2019? At least a year; otherwise, why would he sign that?

Strictly a guess, but I would say they dropped the buyout from 2 years to 1 year (~$2.5M) and probably have a minimum win figure in the deal for 2019 and 2020. If he hits the minimum wins, he gets extended for one year on the back end. If he doesn't, the school exercises its option and buys him out for $2.5M. That way, as long as he is HC, he can go into a recruits home and say he has at least 3 years on his deal and will be around. Further guessing, the school is making a decision that he does not stay beyond 2022, unless all of a sudden the team is cracking out 9-10 win seasons (and we know that will not happen). After the 2022 season, if he lasts that long, he will be 63 and will have earned at BC ~$22M as HC. Not a bad payday for a career .500 coach. They will cut him loose witha $2.5M handshake so his compensation package will max out around $25M for his BC career. If history is any guide, the team will be cranking out 7 or so wins a year and be a mid level P5 program with a 90% graduation rate. He righted the ship, no doubt. He didn't and won't get the program to where anyone wants it and for that BC will have made him a multi millionaire.

Notwithstanding all of that, I still don't see where this benefits anyone, other than BC saving $2.5M on a buyout. As stated above, if he is essentially coaching year to year, isn't this just kicking the can down the road. It won't take a genius to figure out that his position is tenuous going forward and does not solidify the OC or other coaching vacancies that may arise. No one is going to want to to come to BC knowing that they could be one and done. And what sort of guarantees are in the assistant's deals? Can they get a contract with a 2 year buyout knowing the HC only has a one year buyout? And we all know the other schools will use this as tools against BC in the recruiting wars ("It's all smoke and mirrors...they don't win 8 games next year, he's gone, etc.")

People say this is decision above Jarmond's pay grade and that may be true. If so, what does that say about the long term plans when higher ups are dictating the coaching hirings, firings, etc. I didn't see MJ hanging around much past the Capital Campaign (4-5 years). I see his exit that much sooner if his legs are being cut out from under him.

Yeah this is the part I don't really get. The rationale for the extension appears to be "he can't recruit unless he can tell recruits he'll be around the next few years," but that assumes that recruits can't read the same writing on the wall that BC fans can, which is that this really doesn't change Daz's job security or lack thereof (and assumes, as Bernie points out, that other schools will point out this fact even if recruits don't get it themselves).

Nobody has job security. The median tenure of current FBS coaches is 3 years. Unless you're Saban or Sweeney, there is no guarantee the coach who recruited you is going to be there when you graduate (and even then, competitors will whisper to recruits about retirement, moves to the NFL, etc.).

The three-year deals are boxes to check; BC has done what it needs to. And by the way, if they win the bowl game, it'll be their best season in a decade. I'm not as convinced the writing is on the wall as you are.

True enough, but it begs the question as to why they would go through all of this. They know what they have in Addazio. He is either the guy or he is not. If he is the guy, you extend during the year (especially when they are riding that 7-2 wave and ranked #17) and commit to him full board. If he is not the guy, you cut your losses the Monday after the Syracuse game. This way you give him a paper extension, he is coaching for his job and all to save $2.5M? Looks like this was a short sighted decision by someone other than Jarmond who doesn't get the value-add of P5 football and maor college basketball programs.....wonder who that could be?...Hmmm.
