M-I-Z.  Fixed that redundancy for you.

I absolutely 100% refused to do the same.  I don't even want to think about how fucking annoying those two weeks were.  I skipped the various watch parties to watch it in my dorm room with a pothead Broncos fan and a possibly-autistic Bears fan.  I don't remotely regret the decision.  Fuck those bandwagon fucking posers and their fucking backwards Issac fucking Bruce jerseys.

I had no choice. Only one sports bar in the town I was studying abroad in. Kickoff was sometime after midnight and there were no commercials, which was awesome.

It's IsAAc Bruce. No real Isaac spells their name with more than one S. The exception is Issac Blakeney from duke.

Some hours ago, never mind how long precisely, having little or no money in my wallet, and nothing particular to interest me in the Bay of Pigskins thread, I thought I would head over to the Super Bowl thread, and see the less posted upon part of the SOSH world.

The more I think about how our defense matches up with their offense, I struggle to convince myself that Seattle can score more than 17 or 20 points, barring major ST meltdowns or a pick-6 of Brady.

The only question to me is...can we score 21 on them? Will Brady play similarly to Manning last year and be overwhelmed by the speed of the Seattle D?

The Pats, against Seattle's #1 defense in 2012 (in raucous Seattle, no less), put up 475 yards of offense and 23 points.  They had some breakdowns in the red zone (a Brady INT off Welker's hands, the infamous grounding penalty, etc.), but they moved the ball pretty much at will.

Not saying they'll do that again on Sunday.  Just saying that I think they're very capable of it.

OTOH, I saw the 2002 Superbowl with a bunch of casual Rams fans.

OK, I've got the flip side of that.

I was at a party in Brooklyn for Game 6 of the 1986 World Series. My wife and I were the only Red Sox fans there. Most of the attendees were NYC cops or hangers on.

Worst night of my life, or at least I thought so until Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS.

Someone get Turrable to a SB party.

After 2 weeks of hysteria-levels of scandal and misinformation I've almost forgotten there was even a game tomorrow. Please let us win so we can get on with our lives.

I'm 47 years old and other than Game 7 of the 2004 ALCS I have never wanted a game this badly. I so want Belichik and Brady to cement their legacies. I want an old fashioned ass kicking tomorrow. And I have a hunch it's going to happen.

I'm not feeling much anxiety right now. Nor am I feeling supreme confidence. I've felt both in past Pats Super Bowls.

No, as the game approaches, this feeling is different.

It's bloodlust. And it feels good.

I posted this very thought a few days ago. Although I don't claim to have any hunches.

Reiss thinks the Pats will dress 8 OL and that Boyce, Devey, White, Gray, Tyms, Vellano and Moore will be inactive.

If they indeed go with 8 OL that looks reasonable; Butler seems like a luxury for defense, but he has more ST value than Tyms. I'd love to have Tyms as an option to stretch the field though.

It's far-fetched, but might they sit a core special teamer like White or Fleming and have some of the starters play more ST? Probably not, right?
Tyms is a tough one.

First of all, Reiss admits that entering the Super Bowl with 3 WR is risky, yet cites the team's willingness to do so in the AFCCG vs. the Colts as supporting evidence. But how predictive is that game, which featured 6 OL and a running game plan against a soft front in a rainstorm?

Second, related to the first, at this point I actually think Tyms is a backup for multiple players on offense and special teams. Edelman limped off the field at at least one point against the Colts (another danger with 3 WR) and is going to shoulder an incredibly heavy load in the Super Bowl against the most talented (and hardest hitting) secondary in the NFL.

Third, reading the FC breakdowns, the Seahawks have been vulnerable to deep downfield passes this season. Their defense is so precise, their defenders are so smart and aware, that beating them may require a big play or two -- they won't make many mistakes, so when they do, you have to capitalize immediately. That's Tyms strength, and I would love to take a few shots downfield to him.

That said... I have no idea who to sit in his place. For example:
- Chris Jones still might not be healthy, but the Patriots activated Vellano in his place against the Colts.
- Malcolm Butler had 15 defensive snaps against the Colts.
- Darius Fleming has been coming up huge on special teams: http://www.patriots.com/news/article-1/Take-Two-sday-Flemings-reflexes-flex-special-teams-muscles/10128f6e-4405-4d26-8d38-5022bf8bec5b

Etc.

Totally random, but the Boston area is supposed to get quite a bit of snow on Monday and it starts getting bad right around the morning commute. If they want to make it back to Foxborough before the snow gets bad they may have to leave soon after the game ends. Might make for a convenient excuse for them to not talk to the media after the game, esp if they lose. If they win, maybe they will just stay in Phoenix and come home on Tuesday.

So Nate Silver predicted the Seahawks to win after careful statistical analysis. On the flip side, Ozzy the football preditcting bear ate the banana cake with penut butter frosting that had the Pats logo on it, so we have that.

I guess it's good they're not playing the game 500 times, or whatever his model runs with.  They'd totally lose like 255 of them.

In all seriousness, his take is that this is one of the best SB matchups ever, in terms of quality and parity of the teams.  Including the Week 17 Buffalo game puts it just behind Dallas-PIT in '78; removing the game vaults this matchup to the top of the list.

Left unstated was how removing meaningless week 16 & 17 games from other seasons would alter the rankings.

1. Only if Matthew Slater isn't the secret weapon. BB would love to get Slater a Super Bowl TD.

2. Yup, that was terrific.

What's incoherent to me about Reiss' projections is that 8 OL suggests a fair amount of the 6 OL look - but if you're doing that, don't you want Gray active?

The Seahawks D doesn't have a "weakness," per se, but the two spots where the Pats could challenge their depth a bit are at CB and DT ... but it's tough to do both with the roster activation decisions the Pats will have to make.

Surprise deactivation candidate: how about Michael Hoomanawanui? If they want to go run-heavy, 6 OL seems like a better bet, he's not a factor in the passing game, and he plays some on special teams but isn't a major contributor. What does he do offensively that Develin can't?

I think with Stork upgraded to probable that you may not see the 8th OL needed.  That would open up a spot for either Tyms or Gray.  I'd much rather see Tyms on the 46.

Went to Phoenix Open today where Seahawks/Pats fan ratio was easily 5:1.

Whatever. More celebration beer for us.

How loud will that stadium be with mostly Seattle fans? Is it a hostile environment for cardinal opponents during the regular season?

I'm staying up as late as possible so that I will sleep longer and have less day to kill before the game. How is this still happening to me at this age?

I took the one less posted by,
and that has made all the difference.

Did that really happen? Because if so it would be the cherry on top of the farce sundae that has been the past two weeks.

I had the misfortune of watching that. How can you pick Wilson and Carroll over Brady and Bilichick? I'm so confused. What a bunch of idiots.
