I hope Belichick takes a screenshot of that and shows it to the players during the last team meeting before the game. (Assuming the Pats didn't print post party tickets themselves)

Do you honestly believe BB is browsing SoSH just a few days before the biggest game of the year?

The teams throw a post game party if they win or lose.

Yeah, it's not the kind of thing they can just throw together at the last second pending the result.

Rob Gronkowski on the podium after receiving the SB MVP:

"YO PATS FANS!  WE WON!  AFTERPARTY AT DAYGLO!"

[whisper...]

"OH, WAIT, NEVERMIND, THAT'S ALREADY BOOKED.  OK, UM..."

[whisper...]

"what? Ok, I'll see...um...Oh, ok."

[Gronk walks off, Belichick takes mic]

"Hi folks...Hi.  OK. Here's what we're going to do.  According to Google Maps, the highest concentration of clubs in the Glendale area is at the corner of Main and Crescent.   The team bus will park on the  Northeast corner of that intersection and two team captains will check out each club within a 4 block radius for a possible party location.  Each venue will be judged on the basis of an 8 point scale, including present crowd density, maximum occupancy, noise level, alcohol stock, music selection, and a few others.  Once we have made our decision, we will send out a tweet. Note, however, that this tweet will NOT be sent until exactly 11:30 PM.  There is NO REASON to get there before that time.  Ok, I'll hand it over to Tom to iron out the details."

There's an interesting intro to ticket prices for the SB over at ESPN, apparently a lot of short selling combined with higher than expected interest has left sellers flatfooted:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2014/story/_/id/12247905/super-bowl-xlix-ticket-prices-rising-all-high-secondary-market

In order to "short" the market, a broker typically lists tickets in a generic section of the stadium and doesn't disclose exactly where the seats are until the Wednesday before the game, when sites such as StubHub and Vivid Seats require the brokers to choose exact seat locations or cancel the sale.
The idea for the brokers is to take money from ticket buyers when the tickets are at a higher price after the conference title games, then actually buy the tickets days later as the prices start to come down. The ease of the scheme caused more and more brokers to get in the game.
...

So on Sunday, brokers who still hadn't purchased their tickets, started buying tickets at more than $5,000 apiece, losing as much as $3,000 a seat just to save the integrity of their businesses, according to those on the buying and selling side, who spoke anonymously.

The alleged collusion between brokers also squeezed the websites that make up the ticket marketplace. Sites like StubHub guarantee that tickets sold will be delivered, so the company started buying tickets to protect itself from people who sold tickets but didn't appear to have the ability to actually deliver them, sources told ESPN.

Blandino: "Which we won't do (in SB)."

Well, they've only had 3 weeks to sort this all out.  And they had to, like, work on one of those days.

Refs are part time employees. Can't expect the NFL to splurge on stuff like refs.

I mean, it is kind of horseshit for refs to be filling teams in on strategy during the game. If they're asked about the rules, that's another thing.

I thought it was unfair to tell the opponent not to cover the ineligible receiver. The referees should only inform the defense that the specific player is ineligible. It is the players/coaches job to decide to cover or not. In fact, That disadvantaged the Pats. Also, the defense may want to cover Vereen if he is ineligible because he could get a backward slip screen pass from Brady. If the Referees tells the player not to cover him, that could cause problems.

I don't get this guys reasoning

Michael C. Wright, ESPN Chicago Bears reporter
Seahawks 27, Patriots 24 -- Rob Gronkowski led the NFL with 257 receiving yards after contact, and only two teams this season allowed more touchdowns to tight ends (11) than the Seahawks.

Agreed.  That the ref told the defense who not to cover(!) spelled out how caught off guard they were for what the Pats were doing.  That's Pop Warner stuff.

This is the ending the NFL has been building up to all year. This batshit crazy season probably deserves to end with Goodell standing on a dais, with everyone booing the fuck out of him, handing the Lombardi Trophy over to his BDSM top, Kraft. It deserves to have Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth yammering on from a fucking prepared script about what a nice moment this is for both men AFTER SO MUCH TURMOIL. It deserves one final unwatchable blowout presided over by the NBC production team. It deserves announcers using the word “vindicated” for a billionaire. I’m gonna buy a new television before this game specifically so that I can break the one I already have when I see all this go down. It’s gonna be fucking terrible. I couldn’t be more excited to watch.

It is truly amazing that this has been a minor storyline. When the fuck has the SB line ever been a pick 'em before this matchup (I think most books have it at Pats -1 now)?

Damn, I really want to see Goodell, looking royally constipated, hand the Lombardi over to a drunken Kraft as the boos rain down and a smirking Belichick looks on.

To be honest, if he really does have torn ligaments in his elbow and on Saturday he's looking worse, it wouldn't shock me if he didn't suit up.

Can't wait to read the follow up asking if Brady will skip the Super Bowl to sit by Giselle's side Rocky 2 style if she falls into a coma Sunday morning.

Listening to Mays and Barnwell talk to Danny O'Neil a Seattle radio host and former newspaper writer. He seems to think that Sea will win the game without to much trouble, he also said that because they have handled Julian Thomas and Graham, he does not see Gronk giving them issues.

I am surprised that people don't realize how much of a different TE he is compared to those two guys and just how confident this guy was that Seattle will win.

He's a Seattle guy.  He's watched Seattle win against crap teams for the past 3 months (last week notwithstanding).  Of course he's going to feel that way.  He's probably watched 30 minutes of Patriots all year.

Honestly, it's an honest pick'em. There's pretty much no unreasonable outcome for this game. People can talk out of their ass all day long and look like geniuses next week. Someone certainly will.

Oh I agree. But it would be shocking if a Seattle guy said at the thought the Pats would win.

It was just the way he said it and his confidence. But you are right about your other comments re: crap teams etc.

Well, again, though: I think it's wise, for ratings, to be a voice of comfort on the eve of a big game.   People want assurances right now that they might not have a bad day on Sunday.   The average fan is going to warm more to a guy saying "Here's why everything will be OK" than to a guy saying "Welll...this is going to be a tight one..."

So, I wouldn't take him at face value.  He could very well be right (anything can happen!), but it's more likely is an assumed posture.

To me this game will be decided by the special teams.  Field position will be critical, and a missed field goal/great return may make a huge difference in the outcome.  I'm so much more relaxed than ANY superbowl I can remember the Pats playing in, I'm not sure if it's because of all the BS of the last week, some underlying confidence or just the fact that we're not playing a team that I despise(THE NY FOOTBALL GIANTS - I mean WTF...).  It's going to be a great game and will as usual come down to those one or two freak plays but for the first time in many years I can actually envision it being the pats defensive players capable of making this happen.  It's going to be a great game, and hopefully will live up to the DVOA hype, or I'd also be ok with it completely not and have the pats coasting to a win in the 4th.

New England is 1-5-1 ATS in their Super Bowl history. They need to turn that around and get their second cover this weekend.

The more I think about how our defense matches up with their offense, I struggle to convince myself that Seattle can score more than 17 or 20 points, barring major ST meltdowns or a pick-6 of Brady.

The only question to me is...can we score 21 on them? Will Brady play similarly to Manning last year and be overwhelmed by the speed of the Seattle D?

My score prediction has changed every day over the last two weeks. I have no idea what to expect, but as we get closer to game day, I feel more and more like they're going to JUST edge out the Seahawks.

If you asked me today, I'm thinking 23-20 Pats.

Zo just said he expects Brady will throw more than 40 times in this one, with Blount under 20 carries.

Traditionally in the Super Bowl the officials tended to pocket the flags on special teams and let mayhem ensue. If that still prevails (over the new anti-injuries emphasis), there could be some big returns.
