Ken Starr in the middle of a sex controversy once again

Rumors are that Briles covered up alleged sex assaults by his players which if true, he should burn indeed

That school needs some fundamental changes. It seems like the problem is much more than just the football team. Does dumping Briles do anything? Well, it gets rid of an enabler. But only one of them.

I had read as recently as one day ago that Starr would be sacrificed so that Briles would be allowed to stay.

I have no opinion on whether Starr should stay or go (and yes, word is that he's next) but it's nice to see that the school appears to understand that if there is a grotesque Title IX violation being directed by the football coach, then the coach is the first to go.

Edit: And it looks like Briles and coaching staff are gone; the AD has been "sanctioned," a bunch of unnamed administrative staffers are fired and Starr has been demoted. Rare to see a school take comprehensive action. Good for them.

WAY overdue. This should send a message across the nation that this type of condoning behaviors can never be tolerated. Schools, AD's, coaches and players continually push the envelope. The good ole days of a wink and a smile are hopefully gone and accountability prevails going forward.

I'll believe the bolded when Jimbo Fisher is fired and/or indicted.

If Baylor did indeed do a wholesale firing, good for Baylor. A school that sees itself as a premier Baptist school should let no gods - including that of collegiate athletics - come before its ethics and morals. But sadly more likely motivated by potential NCAA sanctions than by its ethics.

Baylor in particular and Texas schools in general have a terrible history of allowing their sports programs to behave with utter impunity. SMU, aggy, Houston, Baylor, the frogs, Tceh - just about all of them have done some really awful things in the name of trying to keep up with the University of Texas. Obviously not unique to Texas, but Baylor felt so much pressure to keep up that they covered up a murder in their basketball program. And Briles was awful in that regard. Good riddance.

Tom Herman, come on down!

Has there been any word on how the NCAA will respond - if at all - to this whole situation?

Starr more than demoted: he's out effective May 31. http://www.baylor.edu/mediacommunications/news.php?action=story&story=170207

I think you misread the statement. He has been explicitly demoted:

Ken Starr will no longer serve in the role of President of Baylor University effective May 31. David Garland, former dean and professor at Baylor's George W. Truett Theological Seminary, will serve as Interim President of Baylor University while the University initiates a search for its next President. Garland previously served as Baylor's interim President from August 2008 to May 2010. Starr remains the Louise L. Morrison Chair of Constitutional Law in Baylor's Law School and has agreed in principle to serve as Chancellor on terms that are still being discussed.
He's out as President but will remain as Chancellor of the University and as a professor at the Law School.

Gee, I wonder to which incident they're referring with the lack of due diligence regarding a transfer?

Fuck that school. Hard. And fuck anyone who defended Art Briles like he was the second coming of Joe Paterno. Oh wait.

The question was actually rhetorical. There's no way it wasn't about Ukwuachu.

Knowing Baylor, it could of been of those multiple choice questions that the answer is all of the above.
Very true. But then again, Briles didn't lie to the national media regarding how much he knew about any other player's past. I remember some groans about Oakman being an asshole, but nothing approaching the full-blown CYA (more like half-baked, amirite) we saw with Ukwuachu.

Besides, the report goes out of its way to state that it was a single "identified" instance. Which has to be Ukwuachu.

Edit: At any rate, apologies if my sarcasm didn't come through as well as I intended. I'll try to lay it on a little thicker next time!

So, Ken was demoted, supposedly. Instead of President and Chancellor, he's now just Chancellor. And it looks like prior to 2014, he was just President until he was promoted to President and Chancellor. WTF is the difference?

No problem, I believe sarcasm keeps intelligent people sane in an unsane world.

Chancellor is a made-up position to put people far away (think Milton) who they hate.

This all should've happened 9 months ago but Baylor wanted a run at a national title.

Kudos to the regents for stepping up and ordering an investigation that doesn't seem to have been influenced much by the university.

The NCAA should hammer them. But they won't.

Good riddance, scum.

If she was being honest, she's just come out and ask "why should my father be the first coach held responsible for covering up rapes?"
While there are many schools that will sweep rapes and other deplorable behavior under the rug, this situation seems to be even worse than most.

Baylor247 has learned that Baylor Director of Athletics Ian McCaw will announce the hiring of Jim Grobe as an interim head coach of the football program for the 2016 season. A native of Huntington, West Virginia, Grobe began has head coaching career at Ohio University (1995-2000) before finishing his career at Wake Forest (2001-2013).

With the hiring, Grobe is expected to place the majority of his emphasis on the defensive side of the ball, aiding current defensive coordinator Phil Bennett. Offensive coordinator Kendal Briles is expected to remain in full control of the offense with assistance from offensive line coach Randy Clements.

And just like that Ian McCaw is gone.

Baylor247 has learned that Baylor's Director of Athletics Ian McCaw will officially resign from his current position in the near future. McCaw has been at Baylor in the same position since the 2003-2004 athletic year and was responsible for the hiring of several Baylor coaches within the athletic department including new interim football head coach Jim Grobe.

And now Starr is resigning from his - new - position as Chancellor.

He'll remain on as a professor at Baylor's law school.

And now they're starting to lose recruits over this. Seven of their incoming class have asked to be released from their letter of intent due to the scandal. One of them, due to an administrative error, is free to sign wherever he wants because the school never filed his NLI. Devin Duvernay, the #3 rated receiver in the 2016 class, is now available to be re-recruited. TCU and Texas are listed as possible destinations.

This is just so glorious. I don't want this to ever end.
Baylor Insider on Twitter yesterday was trolling UT players too. Good times in Waco.

Ken Starr is a bigger idiot than I thought possible. And the local news media are apparently so disgusted with the situation at Baylor that they have decided its ok to eviscerate him.

http://deadspin.com/ken-starr-faceplants-when-confronted-with-email-showing-1780263253

For those who don't want to click through and see the video, here's the money shot. Starr is confronted with an email sent to him by one of the women who had been raped. He says that he doesn't remember, but admits that he may have seen it. At which point, his media advisor barges in, insists that they edit that answer out, pulls Starr into another room and comes back later to complete the interview.

The question is asked again and Starr gives the answer he was instructed to give. Then turns to his advisor and asks "Is that ok?" The advisor tells him "Don't look at me, look at her." They re-do the question a third time and he gets it right, providing an answer that leaves the strong impression that the email never got to him without saying those exact words.

Rather than edit it as the media advisor had insisted, the local news team showed every bit, making Starr look like a disingenuous buffoon.

Good stuff.

Man, that station just nuked him. That's fantastic--I haven't seen anyone actually keep the cameras rolling in that situation since Stewart left the Daily Show.
