And yet, almost always the fourth one mentioned of the modern era winners.
Is there anyone on this site, or any informed fan, who thinks they were a better team than in 2013?

I'd put them 2nd ahead of 2004 just on team strength, and the pythag etc would bear that out. That 2007 team was awesome. Maybe not as superlative in some respects, but they had no weaknesses. Best bullpen of the Theo era.

I was watching game 2 of the 2013 ALCS last night. I don’t know how they rank compared to other Red Sox teams but they were very entertaining.

And thanks for posting the games and satisfying my need for basebal.

Entertaining, no doubt. They were a very lovable team in 2013. All 4 winning teams were both great and fun, as were 2003, 2008, 2019 and probably others who didn't win. But on a comparison basis, I just think "the 4th one mentioned of the modern-era winners" is just selling 2007 way short.

I don't think "fourth one mentioned of the modern-era winners" is meant to suggest that that team was lesser than the other four, just the most often overlooked. 2004 gets attention because they broke the curse. 2013 gets attention because of the Marathon bombing and the way the team's success was very much a surprise (given where they were at the end of 2012). 2018 gets attention because of the utter dominance of being the winningest team in franchise history. 2007 was a very good team that did everything well and were consistent from start to finish. Compared to the other three championships, 2007 was a relatively ho-hum championship season (strange as that sounds).

Saying it's the last one mentioned of the four most recent championships should not be viewed as a slight of that team in the least.

They might not be the most prominent in memory, for the reasons others have stated, but man, were we riding high at the of 2007. Remember the trade talks to get Santana and cement the Red Sox “dynasty”...? And we didn't do it because we didn’t think we needed to, with the new talent infusions from Pedroia, Ellsbury, Lester, and Buchholz. Beckett and Papelbon in their primes. Dice-K looking to become a solid #2 behind Beckett. Youk entering his prime. It didn’t all pan out, but only a superhuman Matt Garza ALCS performance prevented them from repeating as AL champs.

Not to mention that the Celts won it all the following spring, and the Pats went 16-0 before the Scottish Game. Could have had 3 titles among the 4 teams during that stretch.

BC men's hockey also won a title in April 2008 and was in the midst of Five Frozen Finals appearances (and 3 titles) in 7 years.

Jon Lester was the #5 starter on that team.

It's a shame they were forced to get rid of Manny the next year. They surely could have had a dynasty, given the youth of the guys you mention.

What a great year by Mikey Lowell. 120 RBI, 5th in MVP in the regular season, and then goes .400/.500/.800 in the World Series, and even with a SB. .25 WPA.

Ellsbury went .438/.500/.688, WPA .27, got the “Taco” stolen base, first one of those. The team slash was .333/.411/.525! Sox hit only 3 HR. Lowell had one and the most memorable ones were by Bobby Kielty and Pedroia to lead off the bottom of the first in game one, which said we’re gonna kick your ass, Jeff Francis and Colorado. Even Lugo hit well!

It is 2-0, but it would be scoreless if the Rockies shifted against Papi and Varitek
The infield was in against Ortiz, wasn't it? I think that run scores regardless of how the Rockies defended it, with Ellsbury running at third. All a shift would have done was prevent Ortiz from reaching base.

One of my favorite Red Sox games is on NESN tomorrow at 8.

Quick backstory. Clemens is going for win #300 and is wearing a special glove with a patch on it. Grady Little goes out to the umpire before the 1st pitch and makes Clemens switch gloves. The Sox proceed to knock Clemens around for 8 runs. A great F-U Clemens game.

Watching a coiffed Manny sit on the grass at Fenway at the 1999 HRD makes we wonder if that experience made it easier for Duke to sign him.

I was at the game. Remember it well, mainly because of the few games I've been there.

Tonight's game was weirdly predictive of game seven ALCS. Blown save by Rivera, walk off HR by Mueller. Most of the relief pitching was gruesome, most notably Lescanic, who gave up several runs in the sixth. July 24, 2004.

Tonight's game was fun to watch, even though I remembered it. Sox completed the sweep of the Yankees. April 22, 2007. DiceK was annoying, but the Sox got four HRs in the third inning, and Papelbon was great. The game ended with a leaping grab by the rookie Pedroia. Game had a lot of good stuff.
