Marcus Morris is coming back in the trade.

Edit: he makes 5.375 this season and is then a FA

Cap wise, does this get them where they need to be...i.e. they keep Rozier and Smart?

Except Bradley for Morris straight up doesn't work because Detroit is over the cap, right?

He was the guy to go. Really good player, but too much of an injury concern. Things are shaping up nicely.

ESPN trade machine says it doesn't work, salaries are too far apart, I'm assuming it's wrong (or they're taking back another contract)?

Plus, he looked great subbing in for his injured brother in the playoffs last year. /conspiracy theory
Haha well done. He's a very solid player. Was really good in 2016 pistons playoff run. Lakers and Clippers were in on it too until the end per Woj. Not sure what they would have offered that would have been better

Yeah, I think there has to be more to it than this. They're hard-capped after signing Galloway and Bradley has a bigger hit than Morris.

KCP is certainly walking now.

Good deal with Bradley due for a large raise. His scoring is replaced by Hayward.

I figured Crowder was going because he would be pissed but I guess Danny and Stevens were able to convince him that he'll have a prominent role in smallball lineups.

It will be interesting to see how he fits with Morris here.

Does Detroit have any non guaranteed deals that it can package with Morris? Because otherwise I think Samastroyin is right.

This is a hell of a trade. Morris is a good player. Wonder if a separate deal for Crowder is coming at some point.

I guess we can wait it out, maybe I'm missing something on trade exemption or something. Detroit has almost literally nothing that makes the salaries work unless they are already giving up on Ellenson (who the Celtics would then have to flip for nothing) or even less likely Johnson or Kennard. Maybe they could guarantee Gbinijie's contract fully and then trade him, and then the Celtics flip him.

Either way, again unless there is an exemption I'm missing, the C's have to take back enough salary that we also have to deal with Yabusele on top of renouncing everyone.

Shams saying it's a 2019 2nd rounder going to Detroit as part of the deal.

Bradley's the guy who made the most sense to move, and getting a cheap big who can shoot fills a need nicely.

23 year old Marcus Smart is now the longest-tenured Celtic.

I would guess the starting lineup is IT-Hayward-Crowder-Morris-Horford?

I think the answer here may be that Detroit is just a hair under the new cap (99M or thereabouts) so its 150% instead of 125%. Maybe the ESPN and RealGM trade checkers haven't been updated to reflect the new number.

Can Morris play any really small ball center?

Smart, Brown, Hayward, Crowder, Morris would be awesome to see the switching that is possible with those 5

Here
I don't think we could have realistically hoped for a better trade. Morris is an enforcer, which this team desperately needs. No more freebies past Al.

I guess I still don't get it. Clearly one thing that makes this easier is if this trade happens "before" Galloway is officially signed. Then they go over the cap with this deal and still use the MLE to sign Galloway? Not sure if they have to renounce KCP

And yeah, this probably means KCP -> BKN but I'm not as worried about that for next year.
