Auto-emoji ing

Is there any way to disable changing my emoticon o _ O (without spaces) to ?

Google say the former is a sign of being confused, surprised, or perplexed, while the emoji looks like...not that.

EDIT: Click the gear into BBCode mode, and type:
o[ i][ /i]_O (without spaces).

Any other number of tricks where you put in something invisible to the reader but not to the emoticon string-replacer would work. Could probably just make the underscore italic or something and avoid gear-mode.
